Not all tobacco benefits from extended aging. Most cigars are 2-12 months old by the time you buy them. Many producers are aging their cigars more and more. Padron for example ages some for up to 8 years before release.

Aging allows for the different leaves to blend their oils and mellow out. The nicotine content starts to drop after a couple years of age. Also some tobacco may go through a second fermentation after being rolled into a cigar. Smoking before or after is fine, but during the fermentation can be very nasty.

Cuban cigars tend to do well with aging, as do Dominican. Honduran and Nicaraguan tend to need less aging.
The flavors continue to develop and certain ages may feature a flavor profile more predominantly because that tobacco leaf is prime, but that may fade in another 12 months.

Thank you for the response, one other question, how can you tell when a cigar's tobacco is going through a second fermentation ?(This seems to be very similar to aging wines that go through second and third fermentations) Is it only in the taste like you said, or are there other notable changes such as color ?

The smell of cat piss, more specifically, ammonia. The second or third fermentation is what's happening of someone says their cigar is 'sick'.

Like a fat kid turned loose in a candy store is more like it. Nicely done!!

We had some perfect weather for the last few days so I've been lighting a few up. Had one of my faves Fuente 8-5-8 maduro Friday night by the fire, a GAR torpedo pre-celebrating Cinco de Mayo with friends saturday night, and a Camacho yesterday while golfing!!

    It was a good weekend!!!

Same here, the weather has been phenomenal ! Had a Juan Lopez No. 4 on Friday, a Cohiba Maduro Genio on Saturday by my pool and a Bolivar Belicoso on Sunday night also by the pool. No wind, just stars in the sky...Life doesn't get better than that... The outdoor smoking season has officially started ! :)

Great smoking Jdubbya and psorella :)

Just threw together a coolidor with a couple lbs of silica crystals, empty boxes and 150 sticks to be aged. Cooler and crystals cost $25, new digi hygrometer $25. Have room for another 150.

It ain't pretty but it can hold a ton for cheap :)

That's exactly how I'm setup... Got the ole tupperdor system going . It's been the most reliable and consistent humidor short of going full out on a true cabinet humidor with climate control that can run several thousand vs the $30 bucks I spent. Leaves me with more $$ to buy sticks!

That's what I've done for now too. I also bought some fairly cheap little spanish cedar trays from Amazon to use in it. It also helps control the humidity just like in a humidor.

I have my icebox-idor all set to put together but my buddy with a wood shop who is going to help me build it has a couple other projects to finish up first. It's going to be nice when it's done!!

Nice stash! I see you are partial to Partagas... Just picked up a box of limited edition D series... I'm letting them age a little more.

Love the series D. Picked up a box of the series P and the Presidents (I think?). Have a lot of Cohibas in another humidor.

Cohibas... Now we're talking :) . Sorry, I'm partial to them, but hey, it's personal taste right ? I'm discovering Bolivars and Juan Lopez as well, highly recommend them if you collect. I'm torn as to where to setup a proper humidor- home or office. In the meantime I split up my sticks between two desktops and a tupperdor...

Had a nice Boli from '04 and a Camacho Corojo Lonsdale last night with some friends. One of them dropped a Viaje 45th Anniversary Tower
In my lap, can't wait to light it up. It's a beautiful cigar.

I just wanted to share my adventure today because I almost left the store laughing. I went into a local cigar store my friend told me about to hopefully pick up a stick. I saw a Davidoff White Edition 2012, which I smoked in California, and really wanted to have another one. I asked the price and he says "nine-fifty".

I thought for a second he was high so I said I will take a stick. Then he told me that it was $950 for the box. It just tasted even better after buying it in MKE for $22 or so a stick. Thompson Cigars has the box for $215.

Note To Self: Buy maximum amount of cigars allowed anytime I go to the U.S.

    Just got in the mail:

10 pack of My Uzi Weighs a ton Bait fish from Cbid
5 pack of Black Market from CI

Have been on a RP Conn. kick lately, even thoguh I prefer heavier and fuller cigars.

Okay everybody well I will be coming to the U.S again and the Cigars are fairly cheaper vs Canadian prices.

I will be looking to add a few Davidoff, Arturo Fuente, Nat Sherman, and maybe a few others. Any suggestions on what to pick up? Max I can bring home is 50 cigars but my budget will not allow for that, most likely around 20 cigars will be coming home with me.

Bad experience with my first Rocky Patel but would be willing to give them another try. Felt the Oliva V series was overrated but may pick one up to try a different size.

Feel like a kid in a candy store right now, especially because I got a nice bonus from work that will allow me to comfortable stock up on a few.

I have been browsing the common names and will pick up a nice batch from each. The main brands I am looking at will be Flor de las Antillas, Padron, Arturo Fuente, Ashton, Rocky Patel, Nat Sherman, Oliva, Punch, and Davidoff primarily.

These are the brands I am familiar with or have heard of producing some quality cigars. Any suggestions for other brands are welcome.

The Padron will be part of my purchase just haven't decided which one. This depends on the inventory and price point once I get to the store.
