What model is this, and is it genuine or a reproduction?

These pictures were posted on another forum I'm on. I lurk here as I'll never own one of these cars, but the vintage section here is amazing. The knowledge here and historical record keeping is impressive.

This was in Florida if that helps at all.

Just curious if it's genuine or a kit build, and what model it is.

The pics were also taken in FL so I'll go out on a limb and say that its the same car

It is a real fake Ferrari car.

 

If it is fake (which I have no idea) it is a beautiful fake

 

I have seen it in real life during a Celebration Event and it screams fake a mile away. The front is ridiculously wrong.

 

Sorry, I made the assumption it was real based on the owner's collection and how the car was displayed.

 

Three fakes built using 330GT frames in CA/USA. It must be the ugliest car ever built by man.

 

Can anyone provide more info than a yes or no answer for those of us who read here to learn about these wonderful vintage machines?

 

This is a Yugo on a Volkswagen chassis that has been hit an ugly stick belonging to Kim Jong Un.

 

I talked to the owner of a very valuable early '50s Ferrari (he paid over $1 million)and he had a great idea for checking if the car he was buying was the right one. He merely took modern day pictures of it and overlayed over those transparent pictures from the car's racing career at LeMans in 1950. The pictures matched perfectly--right down to the odd one-off hood scoop. So even without that trick I can tell the whole stance of the car, the way it is sitting, the way the windsheld is "perched" atop the car rather than being part of it, it has all the design cues of an early '50s 166 Barchetta but they should have got the body on the frame right before they went so far with the cosmetics.

since no one else has really answered your question; it's trying to be either a 166 or 212 Barchetta.
Do a google search to see what it should look like...

 

When i see a fake like that where someone really went the extra mile to do a nice job on the fit, finish, beautiful interior and so on.. and it still looks terribly wrong it makes me appreciate the beauty of a real 166 even more.

It's actually built on a Triumph Stag chassis.

Seriously though,the wheelbase and height are so wrong.

 

Not genuine. It's possible the builder thought he was making one of these....hard to tell......

Ill start:
Check the spacing above the seat - maybe a three inch difference - which makes the slope of the rear way off.

 

Just looked again, that space may be 6 uncles off

What a waste of time and energy. It looks like a good job, but there was never a left hand drive Barchetta !

 

I owned my 212 Barchetta for about 20 years, and it was a great little useable car, and unlike this replica, it was almost pretty. It was also pretty quick with a late 250 under the hood !
It doesn't make sense to me to put the time, effort and money, into building a car that is so far away from the original in shape, plus the fact that there never was a left hand drive Barchetta.

Exactly. The car is clearly a quality built. But how can the shape be so far off the mark when the person who built it is clearly good at what he does.

 

Because this is what "exact recreation, indistinguishable from original" was 20+ years ago. I think the builder worked from a head-on photo, having little idea or care about how the side view turned out.
