To me a proper sports car is topless.

That brings into view cars like the F50 and the Carrera GT. Problem is those cars have manual roofs which are a real pain to put up and down.

Thus, my nomination for the best sports convertible in the world is the Ferrari 458 Spider. fast as an Enzo except top end speed (not likely to drive 200+ mph) great looks, fantastic transmission, and all the tech goodies one can imagine. The car seems to pivot rather than turn like a "normal" car. Sounds great, fun to drive yet practical for everyday use.

so for me the 458 spider is the best convertible in the world which means its the best sports car in the world and thus the best car in the world.

The car's capabilities amaze me more every time I drive it. Just wonder what SF can possibly do for an encore. They seem to have achieved auto nirvana with the 458. I could not be happier. Can't think of any other car I could possibly want to replace it.

Personally the best overall car in the world cannot be a sportscar or 2 seater as that means little effort and packaging for the designer, ie. being impractical is hardly being a good designer.

I think taking selling price, driver fun, chassis balance, true 4 seater and can depending on the mood be humble family car or imaginary Milli Miglia contendor, one has to consider the Alfa 75 v6.

Wonderful music from the best v6 engine Italy has ever produced (voted by ? in some Italian magazine I flicked through a long time ago, but now cannot find reference too on the net).

Great chassis balance and importantly comes with a big dose of Italian-ness.
Looks are a personal preference but with a little effort they can be improved.

There is no such thing as best car.

Everyone's needs are different. Give my dad an F50 and he'll complain about the noise, seats and the fact it doesn't have an automatic. He'll be happier in a Merc E200 (let alone E63) with a slushbox.

Give me an E63AMG and I'll swap it straight away for a 2nd hand Ferrari, a 550 most possibly.

Give me a Mclaren F1, even if it's an LM and I'll do a straight swap for a pagani Zonda 760, despite the Mclaren being worth 3x as much.

That gembella monstrosity. Probably the ugliest Enzo out there. Even the one Eddie Griffith crashed looked better after the crash.

Me too. Wouldn't work with red/black, and the original Enzo isn't a beauty either...

it still manages to be much more attractive than the latest Anime-inspired 'one-offs' from Sant'agata....
