While watching the race on NBC sports, an audio tease is broadcast informing us that for the first time ever the race will be broadcast on network television...WTF?
The late Jim McKay and crew, with ABC, and entity which I believe has a history as being known as a network, did a hell of a job of pretending to be in Monaco? I am reasonably certain the word "live" should have been inserted in the sentence after broadcast. Hmm, that would have taken minimal knowledge of any part of the NBC crew!
This dramatic announcer's long history of doing anything within his vocal abilities to alter facts in the interest of misleading the "viewer" to seek out the details at 11 is tabliod tv coupled with all the wrong incentives!

I think that's it. Fox also showed Monaco on their "big" network.

Remember too the days of ABC showing the Monaco GP "live" (even though the race
had concluded hours before) along with gymnastics, AAU track & field and cliff diving
    from Mexico.

I recall one year, ABC showed the Monaco GP over two weekends, the first half of
the race on the actual race weekend and the second half of the race the next and
how much time they'd spend explaining the difference between F-1 and the Indy 500.

    Ah, those were the days!

I think it would be interesting to hear the comments of the commentators every time the pit stops occur during the commercials! Ha! Got to be a bit of frustration for the control room....
My earlier post I would admit is just a culmination of hearing these statements in all media without any followup as to a correction or a simple admission of a mistake. Motorsports certainly do not have a lock on this.
As a final, Ferrari flags were a great sight, eh?
