Came across this recently - I know that it is intending to be a 250GTO, but surely it isn't? What is it, I'm afraid I know nothing about earlier cars, rebodies or replicas. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That is 3387GT and a genuine GTO. It was recently on display at the Simone museum in Philedelphia and was absolutely stunning.
Not a knock at you funkstar, but this is a perfect example of the tragedy that replicas have created - a genuine piece of history is first assumed to be a fake. >8^) ER
Very much agree. It perhaps doesnt help that this color is unusual for a GTO at lest I have not seen it before. That is what is charming about owning a 250 Lusso or 275 GTB/4 - you dont have people immediately assuming its fake. That is a problem (assumed fake before being proven innnocent) also for the Iconic 250 SWB....
That is just porn. WOW And great to see it "out in the wild" and it looks like it is raining as well, or at least wet. I was out a few weeks ago in the drizzling rain and a guy turned up in a real 250 Cal Spyder without a top. Great and it didn't melt either but the interior got pretty wet.
Wow, thanks guys!!!!! Once a month about 30 or 40 enthusiasts gather at the local pub (Chelmsford, UK) and chat cars, usually it will be a collection of 911s, Lotus Elise and the odd 355. But out of the blue this turned up - and yes it was raining.
It didn't stop you buying your fabulous Lancia Stratos. Nobody thinks their 250 GTO is a fake when Nick Mason, Ralph Lauren, Sir Anthony Bamford, Sir Paul Vestey and a few other famous owners pull up in their cars.
We did have a Stratos turn up too, though given how rare the GTO is that was the car that I was more quizzical about. The thing is given how unusual these cars are, when one turns up at your local pub your first thought is understandably whether it is real or not - of course when I am somewhere like Goodwood Festival of Speed I take it for granted that the car is the real deal. "Imitation is the sincerest of flattery" as they say. Yes, it's an irritation too. However, when you have asked yourself if real, and worked out that indeed it is, the sense of awe and that you are witnessing greatness is heightened.
I'd rather have that sense of awe there, live and in person, without the overarching feeling of doubt to cloud the experience. >8^) ER
Guess it's not in Philly anymore... I believe the car had Washington DC registration when I saw it. Maybe this car recently changed owners?
I was recently dropping off a starter motor to a client and he had this in a trailer. Sorry about the awful photography skills, and the fact I didn't take a look at the number plate, but would anybody be able to reveal whether this is a rebody or an original? Thanks Ryan Image Unavailable, Please Login
This is why best is to drive an LM , not a lot of fake around and almost no one is brave enough to drive them around on open road!
It was great to see 5995 in the MM Tribute in 2010! At least that year, there were quite a few of us vintage Ferrari owners participating (I think around 20). Onno Image Unavailable, Please Login
