Thermostat Question

Post pic of other thermostat.

The thermostat to the left in this picture is the original Savara. Notice the round plastic gasket. The one you are showing is readily available without having to pay the Ferrari premium. Where did you buy it?

I got a Behr thermostat from Superformance in the UK. It seems to work pretty good in my 328. I drilled an air bleed hole in it as well. After startup the temp is rising quickly to about 75 degrees and stays there during most driving situations.

 

I had the same problem with 308 gt 4 thermostat .the problem is that the one ferrari sells now is not exact the same of original , as is easy to see ,as the inner diameter is 28 mm . instead of original savara 31 mm.I think in 28 mm .hole the water flow is less than in 31 mm. so in summer engine cooling could not be the best .The walher tstat is the best we can use ,in my opinion . What do you think about?

 

I put a Stant stat in my '86 328, and it works just fine, even in the summer with the AC running.

 

I bought the Birdman recommended Wahler 056 121 113F.
No problems.

 

+1 Self-drilled works fine. It should have a black rubber seal that does the job of the original white/beige plastic disk. Mine had a black rubber seal that encircled the larger "body" disk as well. That settled right into the groove cast into the housing.

 

Well ,so you agree that the inner diameter 31 mm . is better than 28 mm ?

 

The part just came in and it looks completely different then the one I'm taking out. I also noticed it didn't have that little hole everyone talks about adding to the less expensive ones.

So what I'm wondering is, is this the way they come now and will this work? Or do I have the wrong one?

Mike, I fitted exactly the one you have last week. It works fine, temp sits around 80 - 90 c in cool weather and I expect will still be ok in hot. I did drill the small bleed hole myself.

I just bought the non-OEM alternative 308 thermostat from T Rutlands and had it installed during more involved cooling system maintenance (rodded out radiator core) Works well. My car warms up much faster now and maintains 90C-100C easily. I can recommend it.
