Leaving on Tuesday the 21st en route to my 22nd Grand Prix de Monaco. This trip never gets old- I refer to it as my annual pilgrimage to Mecca. The forecast for race day is 69F with a 10% chance of rain- we shall see.

After two years of attendance we will sadly miss the mother of all parties. Hope to rejoin next year. Best wishes, and best of luck with the weather!

I too will be attending the gp!!!. 3rd gp but 1st time in Monaco. We lucked out with a layover in nice so decided to extend it to catch the race.

Any pointers about the race weekend, things not to miss, best place to be, etc.

Here's to hoping for a touch of rain and ferrari to pull off a 1-2

If you can, try to stick around for Monday and take a rental car around the track. Lots of fun. I did several laps ending up in the pitlane where a ticked off gendarme shooed me away. :)

I have been a dozen times. One of my best memories is driving a friend's F-50 on the track on Friday afternoon after practice. Here is a picture, taken by a buddy as I rounded the Loews hairpin. It is not digital--this is 1999--kodak film.

I can't go this year. Have a great time.

Monaco Grand Prix is on my bucket list.

Am I overthinking this, but I think I would feel like white trash compared to everyone there. Or have I just built up Monaco too much in my head?

    You have.
There are plenty of regular folks going to that race. Remember this is F1 and not the Opera or a neurosurgeons' convention.

The Monaco GP is one of the most fun in the calendar whether you arrive by yacht or commercial airline.

go. sit on the hill. it's like a big tailgate party.
one year we got hooked up with some brits.
wound up partying at their holiday camp trailer drinking beer and cooking brats on the grill.
it's not all champange and caviar.

I used to have an apartment in the Le Schuylkill, a building in Monaco. If you go to my personal page, it is the gray building that is about 1/4th of the way from the left side of the page. We had parties on the balcony, and everyone was in shorts.

We would always try to walk down to the main track--some years we had better luck than others. My apartment was not "on" the track, but it was high enough in the building that you could watch the race from the balcony.

I'd say that 90% of the people (or maybe more) were in shorts or jeans. Very casual. The tuxedo stuff you see is purely for the fundraising types.

After the race to get into Jimmyz or Amber Lounge, you will need a jacket and slacks, but open collar is good enough. You will need a jacket to get into the Casino. But that is a small minority of the places you will go.

    Just be yourself.
