Yes, these were random pictures taken on the Classiche Dept, we got lucky the car was there at that time but I'm still amazed they let them take and publish these!

My assumption has always been the part of the car involved in the accident was the front, never tought it was a total rebuild to be honest, glad these are confirming it and very happy Mr. Cox will have his car back shortly. :)

I'm sure it's the lighting and that what I can see are shadows but the car looks like it's still got dents in it on the side in the pic of the side view.

They have 4219 and 4675 on display in the museum at the moment, both look fantastic.

As Violati had the car for so long, was it ever restored by him?

I read somewhere recently that 250 GTO #3851GT was rebuilt with a new chassis at the factory after Henri Oreiller's fatal accident???

Does #3387 have its original engine a/o body? Supposedly it was rebodied by Terry Hoyle in the late 1990ies.

The Bluemel/Pourret and Anthony Pritchard 250 GTO books say that it was rebodied in the late seventies though not by who. Pourret's 250GT Competition cars book says it was rebodied in the US.

Thank you. I have both books, but only found the remark about the rebody during Griswold´s ownership in the Pritchard book. So it might have been rebodied twice.

What about the engine? A car with such a long history could have "deserved" an engine replacement.

    Regards

There is no reference to it being rebodied twice. The Pourret 250GT Competition Cars book refers to the US rebody in Griswold's ownership. I'm not saying it hasn't, but what makes you think it's been rebodied twice? Many/most GTOs still have their original engine, I would guess. Some have lost them to be reunited with the original as well. They may have been rebuilt many times.

Someone very knowledgable saw it at Terry Hoyle´s in 1998.

But I understand he didn't sell it until around 1972 and for a lot less, maybe under $10K. When I saw it it was painted dark blue or black (so dirty I couldn't tell) and smoking like crazy.(what was a 250GT engine rebuild costing back then--$10,000?) I was wondering why it took so long to sell? Maybe Steve Earle hadn't started the Monterey historics yet so there was no venue to race it hence no demand. What was the other Ferrari he brought back from Europe--was that one a racing car too? By the way he wasn' t the only Road & Tracker with a sports car, Tony Hogg had a 427 Cobra that may still be in the Hogg family and of course John Bond Sr. had some oddball cars and a 330GT.

This car may well be 4757GT, not 4293GT as I stated (with a question mark) further up this page, so not the car owned by Chip Connor today. :)

I remember going to his home in San Marino--the posh side of Pasadena-- to photograph it but didn't because the headlight bubbles weren't installed. I vaguely remember he said he was going to "make it the finest GTO in the world" and get a heady $25,000 for it. This had to be between 1970-'73 because a fellow worker at Motor Trend had given me his name. I was wondering if prices rose after that and he did better than his original estimate.

Also I saw the old Road & Track ad today on FChat by Charlie Fee offering the car for $8500 in 1969 so, if that was what the Good Doctor paid, he should've made a profit (but I am sure he dumped tens of thousands into it)

I wasn't quite sure what Bannish meant by "the second Japanese invasion." I remember around the early 70s they were buying everything in sight. In 2015 I went to the Gooding in Scottsdale. No Japanese did I see..,though I left just as the auction was starting
