Well, there are a lot of different stories on this; it is nevertheless interesting to have Fioravanti's point of view.
One of the explanations I have also heard (but I do have others...) is that it proved too difficult to manufacture the GTS also in fiberglass, especiallly the doors: in fiberglass, they would pop open from time to time under stress, so steel it must be for the Spider, and for the ease of manufacturing and standardization, the "Berlinetta" switched to steel also.

You're perfectly right. I can see how fiberglass could have been a problem for GTS cars, and as long as you produce tooling for GTS parts, you might as well use them for the GTB too, many body panels probably being identical.

By the way, do any of you have period pictures of the fiber bodies being built? I'd like to see what it looked like!

Well...considering one of your former cars' color in particular, you don't see me that much surprised...

(I do like these in blue, too...)

1977 Ferrari 308 GTB Fiberglass Dry Sump Blue with a black interior. Exceptional example of the most collectable of the 308 series cars. With very good service history from the mid 1980's to the present time. A major service was just performed last year and less than 1000 miles ago. This car is in excellent condition and it also runs very nicely as well. $POA

That would be really ridiculous here in France, where the Vetroresinas don't sell at an asking price of 80.000 euros (about 105.000 dollars). Switzerland is really different and apart.
The car dealers here in France are obsessed with the argument "the Vetroresina is the future Dino" but, for the time being, the market doesn't follow the idea...

Harry just posted on here a couple weeks ago, he was instrumental in weighing the cars compared to steel cars a bit basically further confirming some other's weight figures. Which is that the glass car is about 40kg lighter than its steel counterpart, but he also further confirmed there is a variance in glass cars weights of about 20kg+ or -.

76 Vetroresina question, what should be the correct finish on the door window frames,
would they have been powdercoated, anodised or painted? Any ideas appreciated!

I'm not very sure of the difference , but mine don't look painted, and it's very smooth black, like the glass. If that helps you at all.

thanks Big Red, if it's that smooth sounds more like anodising, a powdercoat would have a heavier thicker appearance.
    Any others with any thoughts?

They are painted, at least on the euro glass cars

Hi Stacey, maybe I don't know the difference, but Rocks euro and my US glass are the same when we checked. Power coated they are not for sure. It could be painted, I just don't know the difference between the two in textures of anodizing vs painting. I know what power coated is, and they are not coated.
How are things out east ?

I have seen both black annodized aluminum and painted black window frames on glass cars. That said the frames that are painted that I have seen are of a slightly different profile to the annodized ones.
