Fair enough. Guess I don't think of myself as particularly mechanically savvy, but the 348 is a pretty basic car when you get down to it. Normally able to work out what's up with her when she has a snag.

For those here that don't know who the legendary 'Stooges' are, here ya go.
They are probably one of our biggest assets to this forum and some great guys that have always been there for us in the past for mechanical help and nurturing for many years.
They are Plugzit, VVasallo, Gothspeed, Ernie, Fatbillybob, Nodoubt and Rick in San Diego...and of course Pap our honorary long distance 'Stooge'. BTW Ernie founded the 348 'Brotherhood' here many years ago and Nodoubt has written extensively about our 348's.
We are lucky to have them in the 348/355 forum.
Hey, here's an idea use the search function here to check them out...have fun:)

Bushwacker, pretty much the list I was thinking of and who I look out for in particular, though not familiar with Rick (that his full username?). There's a couple more I'd add - Riffledriver for instance isn't a 'stooge' and he's awfully grumpy sometimes :) but I'd never ignore his advice. Gothspeed is obviously the odd one out, any idea why?

I just had a quick question before you pull the trigger on that. How do you check the oil on one of these things?

Yeah, I was poking fun. The OP is correct though. It would have helped me and still would along with all the other newbies. If there was a "Things to know and do" first Ferrari ownership. I mean how many threads have littered up the place when we could just find the easy answers such as How to check the oil. And a little more in depth Q and A. GREAT IDEA OP!

So how often should I change my belts? Does the engine need to come out for me to change them, I think I read this somewhere?

I am a member of lots of internet forums as well as this one. Repeat questions are the bane of all of them.

But keep in mind the mindset of the new poster. Here he is with a new toy, perhaps the realization of a lifelong dream, he is excited beyond all reason and he wants to get the BEST advice available. So he asks, "How long can I go on my cam belts?" and he is suddenly in the middle of a ****storm.

I think we, as the "experts" have a duty to be patient with these new posters. We are often, in fact, the welcoming committee to older Ferrari ownership and we owe it to them to point them to the right threads and be encouraging and realistic as they learn the joys and pains of Ferrari ownership.

Fortunately I see this kind of good behavior more often than not and its a great thing!

Totally agree Edward. I was a complete newbie not so long ago, now just a bit of a newbie. Think I've posted up how to do an ECU reset on a 348 for example maybe 5 or 6 times on various forums. Doesn't bother me, if I didn't want to help I wouldn't post it up - my choice.
