I have to say mp4 with sport exhaust is not too bad for a turbo car , but it lacks the ferrari scream and high pitch.

It doesn't sound like 500 hp (and more) engine. I hope you understand what I mean ...

Yes with the sports exhaust the MP4-12C sounds good, but the 458 sounds better.

    Not a 458, but here's a 16M w/ Capristo vs 12C w/ Sport Exhaust.

Admittedly I think the 458 exhaust is really awesome and better than the 12C, but the 12C is still very nice. At the end of the day it's just a different sound. Some like Hendrix, some like Dylan.

Have spent a good deal of time driving both 458 and 12C. Love the 458 sound particularly at high end. The 12C exhaust note is different but a very powerful sound. With their sport exhaust it almost rattles windows in the cars next to you at stop lights. The comment above about similarity with a big American V8 are spot on. Much more low frequency energy than the 458 - almost feel it in your bones. Sounds every bit of that of a 600+ hp engine. At idle I think it tops the 458, but we all know 458 exhaust note at idle is not its strong point.

Now my 997 Turbo S sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Which can be handy if you want to let it rip a bit and not alert every cop within a mile radius.

Wondering if there will be a 16M version as well. The F430's 16M did very well and had much more limited production. Why wouldn't they?

The F40 is the best sounding turbo car, but still it doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the best sounding NA car.

Thrilling exhaust sounds wise, turbo and NA is 2 different leagues. No comparison.

If I want a 600 hp car that sounds like a big American V8, I just buy a Mustang GT500 and save myself $200k from buying a 12C.

A agree 100% with your comment! Both sound diffrent but great! The Porsche Turbo sounds like a Dyson :)

But it drives not as good as the McLaren. And the interior looks very cheap (a lot of hard plastics).

Have a look on this well knowned video (jacques lafitte driving an F40 lm on Mas du Clos track, [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YPabCzxMXM]Ferrari F40 LM - YouTube[/ame]), so I was having the chance to do the same with my F40 GTE on the same track, and I can tell you that a well tuned turbo engine with the right exhaust is quite impressive! just my 2 cents.

Agreed. I test drove a Scud , Italia and Mp4 the same day. Bought the scud a month later , Mp4 cant compare to the excitement of scud and Italia. Its the same thing as Porsche Turbo vs Gt3 , no matter what you do to Porsche TT it will never feel or sound like a GT3.

I have MP4 with factory sport exhaust. Sounded too quiet for
me so I installed Fab Speed sport cats. added 30 HP
    and sounds much better imho!

Thank you for sharing, my opinion stay the same, it is quite impressive, but not amazingly fabulous like the best NA Ferrari engine.

As long as there is a turbine blade inside the exhaust stream, it would always mask the sounds of the combustion.

It is like the best singer in the world, singing with a mouth mask on.

Several sub 10k mile 16m's have sold for sub $250k...asking prices are still averaging more than $250k...sale prices, not so much. Still, that is $100k depr from sticker in 4 years...better than scud coupe and recent v12's...

So roughly +40HP, forged con rods for 9300 rpm redline, more aggressive exhaust, weight down to 2900 pounds dry, somewhat stripped out interior and use of exotic materials for weight savings, "active" downforce body components, faster shifts from Getrag dual clutch, even better Brembo brakes... Sounds like Maranello is on the right path for a 458 Scud/Competizione variant. Let's hope they don't get too carried away with the pricing of this new stud cavallino. :)
