It looks like my office is moving to downtown Portland in late summer. All in all, I'm quite looking forward to the change-- with the exception that I will no longer have the free covered parking space that I enjoy in Beaverton.

I'm not planning on doing monthly parking, at least at first, because I travel enough that the economics don't seem to work. For my A6, there are several choices of parking that would be fine on a per day basis (the Heathman garage, with valet parking for $9/day, seems like the obvious choice).

However, when I drive a Ferrari downtown, I don't really want to valet it or park it in one of those buildings with tiny spaces and minimal turning room. I've parked in the Heathman garage myself, and I doubt if the 365GT could negotiate the turns in that building. And even if it would, the ramps would make short work of the clutch.

Any suggestions on garages which might be more suitable?

It may be too far south for you, but the 200 Market Street Garage across from Keller Auditorium is very spacious.

Do NOT park on the street in Portland without a front license plate! The parking meter maids will ticket you everytime, even if your meter is paid up they still feel the need to ticket the lack of a front plate. My 1995 348 Spider does not have a front mount & I refuse to cover up my Cavallino with a ugly universal plate mount.

That's a good suggestion. Do you know how much the daily rate is?

I am going to be closer to Pioneer Square, but still worth thinking about.

I know all about that one, and have ranted about it many a time. Always worth remembering, though.

Fox tower has some steep inclines, but if you're there early enough there are plenty of safe spots. 550 in there a lot along with many other exotics, Porsches, and other cars.

    $15/day maximum M-F; $5/day weekends. Pretty sure it's open 24 hours.

Ouch! The going rate downtown is $8-10 per day, typically.

The Fox tower is a great suggestion-- I will check on that. I've heard that it has a lot of excess parking since it was built to handle parking for the other, unbuilt tower as well.

I'm guessing that big parking spots, wide lanes and gentle ramps come at a price.

True enough. I parked in the lower levels of the Fox Tower yesterday, and I think that will actually work pretty well. And there was an Aston Rapide parked a few spots over.

Was it cheaper than 200 Market? It's a block further north, so basically a competitor in the same neighborhood.

    $9.50/day.

200 Market is a long way away from Fox Tower-- about 7 blocks south, and 3 or 4 blocks east. Maybe you're thinking of a different building?

You're right. I got my TV stations mixed up. My wife, who used to work at 200 Market, told me I was thinking of the KOIN Tower.
