Need a PPI on a car at a dealer in Punta Gorda. Euro car : ZFFLA13B000051317 Dealer : Navigli cars. Need a Euro QV looked at. Car came from Louisiana at some point, want to make damn sure its not a flood car. No books, no tools, no service records, no idea when the belts were done, no EPA or DOT. My kinda 308 .... Its a driver. Can pay for PPI by phone ASAP this week. Thanks.
Might be your best bets on locating a shop. I've heard about Luciano in Sarasota, may be other shops in the area. Someone in SW Florida, please help.
If the car is in Punta Gorda you either go N to Sarasota or S to Naples for a PPI. I can help you with the Naples shops. I can think of 2 down here that I would be comfortable with for a PPI.
Try Hunt Automotive in ft Myers. He has worked on a lot of 308/328s. About 30 minutes to the south. There is nothing in Punta Gorda or Port Charlotte, except a lot of jacked up trucks and elderly folks. Scott
Thanks, i can pay for the car tomorrow, i just want a basic PPI to make sure its not rusty nor been wet. Car was in Louisiana for years.
Thank you. Talked to Rick Hunt at Hunt Automotive. Great guy with an awesome shop. Ricks shop is located at 2200 Andrea lane, Fort myers Florida, 239-481-1978. Basic PPI set up for tomorrow.
Should have basic PPI results this morning. If I pass on the car Ill post in case someone else wants the car.
Basic PPI done. Going to pass on the car based on what was found. Thank you all for the help. Michael
Just curious how bad was the car? I had my eye on it but its been listed for some time (on Craigslist and Autotrader) and I noticed the price keeps dropping. From the pictures I can see that the tail lights are reversed and the QV badge is mounted in a weird location.
What happened with the PPI? Please PM me any details you can if you'd rather not post anything in public. This looks like a case of shortcomings I can live with, but then become a problem for resale down the road. Also, it appears to be listed in Texas now.
Sorry I did not see this until now. I have received several PM's in the last day or so on this car. Car has NO RECORDS AT ALL. NO IDEA when the last major was done or by whom. I had it inspected: The car had no books, tools, EPA / DOT papers, was being sold by the Florida dealer on an open Tennessee title, no jack kit, no spare, no spare hold down, no battery cover. The miles and wear on the seats, pedals and steering wheel do not agree. I have had 9 Ferrari 308's and there is no way in hell that car has "40,000k" whatever miles. Anyway, i was told with full disclosure during the PPI the car had to have a new steering rack, and lower front valance / paint because it hit "something". The AC does not work and it may be due to the damage ( Ac condenser?) or the repair work. Car also had a bad exhaust leak and some back alley muffler added. No emissions equipment or any sign Federalization for import other than some Fiat side marker lights. I offered $22k to the Florida dealer and he got mad. I would suggest a compression and leak down check and a proper PPI. But even then for the $29k they are stuck on i think any of us can find a better euro car. I can have euro cars here in GA with no drama, but the condition and the lack of records makes me suspect the car needs: a major service. + all fuel lines. + all cooling hoses. + all heater hoses. + suspension bushings and ball joints. ** it also has old metric tires* Florida dealer refused to give me the date codes off the tires to date them****** Not worth the $$$$ to me.
The dealer in Texas has the car listed with the VIN wrong. Perhaps its a mistake, perhaps its for another reason. You decide. Car is on Ebay as well as carsforsale.com and one other place, which is where i found the Florida dealers ad, which is also still up. Very confusing way to sell an 308. http://www.carsforsale.com/used_cars_for_sale/1984_Ferrari_308+GTS_199936733_3
My PPI was done awhile ago, perhaps they have fixed a few things. I wish them luck with the sale. I bought my 328 for less than what they want for the needy 308.
I looked at this car yesterday & thought this might be the one. It would make a great driver but something didn't seem quit right about it, too many red flags plus as mentioned this car has been listed before. I didn't have a lot of time to really look the car over & the way it was parked made it difficult to get in & out of the thing. I wasn't the one that started the car & only spent a brief time talking to the salesman, he was very busy with other customers even though I called in for an appointment. The few things I noticed: Odd squeal on start up. Loose drivers side door handle. No tools, records, spare. Missing dash switch missing windshield wipers (on order) Paint overspray all over the place Broken right bumper turn signal lens (hanging out of the car) Loose sagging drivers side mirror Crooked front bumper Hood struts are blown & not functioning (both front & rear) No clue on the belts & hoses (yikes) I asked about the tires & should have looked for a date codes but forgot to. The heat was a killer in North Dallas yesterday & didn't help matters in their warehouse. Glad i could be of some help. I dont think the car has had a nice life. For a good price the car would be worth saving and making a driver. At $29k, not worth it at this point.
Red flags all over the place for sure. The crooked bumper suggests it's been had a big hit. Does anything show up on the Car FAX? Aside from that, that's got to be the biggest Ferrari badge ever which is there more likely to distract the eye than anything. BHW
A Carfax don't matter, most go unreported for various reasons. Besides, Euro vins don't show up on Carfax.
For what it's worth, my Euro VIN does in fact show a minimal amount of info about purchase history. I've never had any problems with my Euro VIN, everything seems to work the same as a US one at every level of governmental BS. That said, Carfax is worthless.
