Depends on the country. But in US about 320k for a middle spec spider and almost 275k for a coupe. Best

I live in the US, and my nearest dealer gives $279k for a 458. Does our networth need to be at least $100 million to be able to buy that car, or just above $30 million like me is enough because I heard the price to purchased the car is the minimum; we have to pay more for insurance and tune up.

Everyone will have their own opinions based on their own life situation, so take them with a grain of salt.

For me, it is no more 1 year's net income so you don't touch your capital. And pay cash. YMMV.

It really depends. To buy, you just need to be able to accumulate as much as it costs. Not very complex maths.

In my view, however, buying and "comfortable" ownership experience are quite different things. For me it makes sense to buy such a car when you can afford to crash it, put a huge milage, attend loads of track events and not to care about depreciation. Another words, to drive in anger and exploit fully. Depends on person a lot but from my experience once you reach $15-25m net worth (i.e. value of your business, not something on your account), you can really go for it and do all the wonderful things to your car, you could ever imagine, then sell and buy something new. In case you can't do it, I would buy something cheaper and make a full use of it. You will enjoy it more. I have recently powerslided my car into the kerb and now changing several suspension parts and a rim on a back corner. And an airbag. Am I upset? No. I knew what I was doing, I knew that when you drive like a hooligan, there is always a risk that you might lose your edge for a moment and have an accident. Just make sure that when you drive like an idiot, there are no people around since crashing your car is one thing, and ultimately your problem and responsibility, while risking other human's life and health is something very different.

But all people are different, for some possession is a key, not how the car can be used.

    Hope you'll make it;)

    What's that famous line?

"If you need to ask, you can't afford it."

May sound like a wise ass answer, but it's the truth. If you can pay cash, you can afford to buy or lease it.

Anyone who has $30M should know whether they can afford a 458 or not. Insurance or tune up costs are pocket change at these levels of net worth. Your registration email suggests you are 24, but you honestly sound like you have even less life experience. If I'm mistaken, kindly enlighten us with a better profile; otherwise, please understand you are about #10,000 in a list of new users who thought they needed or it would be fun to sound "wealthy" when we honestly don't give a rat's ass.

In our German car forum there was a guy who started a thread wanting to save together with his father for a 458 in the next couple of years (they'll be around 100k in that time). He AND his father TOGETHER had a monthly income below 4k (all in EURs), already saved some amount if I remember correctly and could afford something like 1.5k monthly running costs (everything together - insurance, gas, repairs...) later.

I said that it's one of the dumbest car ideas I have ever heard, they could't be convinced to go for an older model. Some people said 'go for it, you can still sell the car if something happens' and so on...

An article in Evo about truck fitter who owns Aston Martin V12 Vantage. Not very sensible but there is something to it :)

£12k is not so bad. It's good that the chassis wasn't damaged, because that would suck.

Too simplistic a question. It simply depends on your priorities and responsibilities. I once had a net worth of $60,000 and yet bought a new BB 512 for $50,000.

With 30M $ you could have a free La Ferrari (before taxes and w/o inflation variable) every year because of the 5% interest rate any major bank would offer....... And wouldn't even be asking us a question about a 300.000 $ car...

Not so dumb.....its more about the journey than the destination. Sounds like a cool father/son project. Do they ever get there? Probably not the point.

I'm about 8 years into my effort to move into an exotic. The performance bar these days tends to rise so quick that a last generation car seems like a horse and buggy.

This thread is really a joke right? If someone "claims" he has a net worth of 10M and doesn't know if he can afford a Ferrari than he probably doesn't know how to tie his shoes and should be banned from owning one.

Honestly, all you really need is about $270K in the bank that you don't mind sitting in a car for a while. It's a lot, but you don't need to make a Million a year to have that.

The cars don't depreciate much so after a few years, you're out some money but not all $270.

Just know the price of the car and taxes(depends on what country or location you are in). And must know the maintenance cost.

Maybe the OP won or inherited the $30m because there is no way someone could earn that much money and don't know whether he/she can afford a $300k car.

    I smell troll.

I do not want to seem rude, but are you really serious?
If you really have 30 million you do not need to worry about the purchase cost of any car. You can afford for a lot more than that!

    So, go ahead!

Some in their 20s have hit the mothelode with an invention or some high tech gizmo, so it can happen. Not likely they would come to Fchat.

I did not buy an Fcar until my kids were out of collge and my retirement funds were adequate. Another factor was living in a small town I was afraid that driving such a car would really hurt my business. So other priorities came first.

Now I am retired, sold the business so I can enjoy the car without such concerns. And I am sure that having to wait made my appreciation of the car much more intense. there is something to be said for delayed gratification.

Meanwhile I bought a pre-owned spider as waiting for two years at my age just did not make sense to me. Friends my age are dying or getting some awful disease which would make driving a sports car unpleasant to say the least.

Everybody's circumstances are different. There is no formula.
