Did someone here just outbid me to win these wheels? Ferrari 308 QV Wheels Rim with Tires The Real Deal | eBay They looked nice! All week I've been hoping that no one here would mention them! Oh well... I hope they're going to a good home!
Yeah... I decided to bail. Fortunately this auction ended during the day. When an auction I'm watching ends at night while I'm enjoying a good Single Malt, I end up spending too much money on stuff I don't really need!
Just got my car bout 2 months ago. Has Speedline wheels on it and i love them. Luckily, the sale included the original wheels. After reading this i checked them and they are indeed the magnesium Cromodoras. The original Goodyears are still in place. Might throw them on and take a look. I didn't realize they were magnesium. Cool. Like dad's 1974 Husqvarna 400 CR.
This is the first set I've seen even come up on Ebay in months. Not many of these around. Ferrparts quoted me a great price on "the next set they get in". People might try them for these. I got mine from eurospares uk and paid more than this.
They are lite, the best looking AND 16s" And a stock option in certain years. The absolute Holy Grail for rims.
Not me! Sorry you missed out on them Tarik. That is a beautiful set of wheels. A little above what I thought they would sell for.
Rutland's had a set listed at $4,700 last year, iirc. And they were really beat up! Maybe I should have hung in a little bit more in this auction...
They were the stock wheels in the QV's and I think an option on the 2v cars. The rear wheels are slightly different than the fronts which makes them more desirable than the reproductions which are identical front and rear. For those with metric or 14" wheels, the 16's get you out of needing very expensive tires which can also be difficult to find. They also provide a little better handling I believe.
They were available from the factory on QVs, but were optional. The standard wheel was the 390mm metric with TRX tires.
On the stock rear wheels, the center recessed back a little more than on the front via a recessed groove. Here's a photo of one front and one rear - top one if the rear and bottom one if the front. Also, I don't believe that any of the reproductions have the raised lettering. That said, I think some of the oem wheels also did not have raised lettering depending on manufacturer. I'd love a clean set of 4 , but would be very happy with just the 2 rears. as I currently have 4 fronts on the car. Everybody keep me in mind if you see rears for sale somewhere.
I put a set of new 328's on my car. 7 x 16 front, 8 x 16 rear and with the deep dish cut in the rear wheels. It really works!
Did you fit the ABS wheels (convex) or the non-ABS wheels (concave) ? BTW, aren't all 328 wheels aluminum alloy --- not magnesium alloy (like the coveted 16" 308QV wheels) ??
I'm running 328 wheels as well. You have to use the early style (non-ABS). The later wheels have a totally different offset. They work well... The dimensions and offset are identical to the 308 16s. They are heavier, of course... being aluminum. They also don't have the center "cone" design of the 308 wheels, which creates a conflict between the front bearing grease cap and the wheel's center cap. You need to leave one or the other off, or modify the grease cap and possibly the end of the spindle. There are several threads on this. Either way, it's not a big deal. They are the non ABS wheels and yes they are aluminum which means they will not break down like the mag wheels. It's Newman's idea and it really works.
chrisbinsb Thank you for the pics. My wheels look exactly like yours. Including the recessed area, raised lettering and all part numbers and casting numbers on the back. But mine are aluminum???
