I was quite pre-occupied @ the Lambo factory event so didn't shot much of the many beauties there but this lady in black. Ohhh you should google around & perhaps there are some of her that day. Her top was bare back with strands of little leather barely holding it together.

    Very sexy....

Oh Simon Kidston is there, the one wearing blue jacket & he's a tall fella.

I really do like that clock.

The face of a watch. Wonder if we can get some of those types in SGP. Would love to hang one in my office and my house.

    Not seen any here.

Hey Derek, might be selling the BB once the classic cert is issued as a dealer told me that I could double my investment?! Unbelievable, we'll see but he sold two 512BBs lately for very good prices & mine's rarer so maybe. Would love to top up for an F40 if that has not gone up lately

Actually, bought the Corniche last minute cos we realised that the E-type ain't gonna swallow our luggages & shopping. So, bought a car because the cig lighter didn't work on my Jag & couldn't power the Gps :(

Oh if you like the Corniche, it drives like a boat & floats like one on the road too! Lots of hairy moments especially on the fast curves or overtaking trucks  I found it more of an achievement to wrestle her around than handling a good car fast.

They're sometimes for sale. Couple of thousands usually & that's a Blancpain btw & a really huge one as normal ones are half that size.

Just wonder if I should bring her back? The interior is very tired but original, they call it patina & it's a trend now, keeping things stock. Clock doesn't work, some rubber lining peeling & probably a new roof but the dash looks good & chrome is fine, I think. Anyway, I'm selling it to fund a better roadster @ higher expense of course.

Perils of buying a car on internet, sigh. Anyway it's not that bad as I've driven her for 30miles or so :D

Been reading up some car mags. I like the Alfa 4C, it sounds like a cracker, looks really good & best part, its just £52k a car with carbon fibre tub at just S$100k. I would've ordered it from Melvin in a heartbeat @ that. Then, theres the Toyota GT86 droptop coming for just £27k?! Now after spending 3 weeks in EU & buying some cars there. £50k gets you a lot of cars. A new Cayman S starts with £42k before specs, fully paid while £25k & you'll find plenty of decent European makes, brand new from dealers with warranty.

My friend who's a professor in UK drives a used Merc CLS for £25k, a pride among his colleagues so a £50k car raises a lot of eye brows there.

Now how much is our Toyota GT86 in Singapore? Last I check, it was like S$200k no wonder I haven't seen one on our roads. Cayman S is probably S$350k by now, possibly more. The old price of an Aventador was S $1.5mllion, they sold like 5 dozens of it, a million seems like loose change but it is just a shy less than £300k for the same car in UK & road tax+insurance no more than £4k a year in total but it'll cost us a whopping S$26k (£13k) if you have 50% NCB.

I was at Bob Frostner in London & they have a Zonda F roadster there now for £750k. I was in love. Had this been in Singapore, I would sell a kidney, bust my cards to afford the deposit then take out a 90% loan & grin to my death. Sigh.....I still have two kidneys.

You can imagine that you'll be labelled a mad man even in London or simply tycoon for owning such a car there as an average Joe has a £10k ride. The salesman, an engineer drives a £5k Jag & he aspires to own an Mx5 mk1. How nice is that.

So gosh. I think we're living in a fantasy island of very very expensive cars.

Indeed, I think we're engineered or hypnotised to pay S$300,000 for a mid sized German saloon & bragged about it. I used to until now that I'm feeling ashamely foolish to waste my 14hrs day job paying off loans & watching my money evaporate to some government coffers. Why is it that we're so egoistic about having a new ride till our neighbour better it with a newer car? And I buy used cars.

The 10year Coe makes us think so. It's a lifeline, something God-given by Lta so we enjoy the best of it's 30% aka 3yrs itch before searching for another new lease.

You're right US is probably the cheapest place in the world to buy cars & let's look at per capita income, taxes, expenses & lifestyle. We had fine 2 course dining in London & Europe for a mere S$30-50 per pax excluding wine. It's double that here & similar in KL. Shopping? Our prices are on par & many things especially imported goods are 100-500% more in KL

Our medical costs a bomb, most western countries provide free especially education for 16 & below. Free.

Yes, they're taxed 40% but they have a lot of freebies. True their welfare state economy is in recession but they have always been & we have a few hundreds billion government controlled funds that is not benefitting the citizens. We start off our first HDB flat with a min 20yrs loan. We're just slaves of money here.

My taxi driver in London earns a decent living, apartment rental is £1100 then complaints about 12hrs days but he works only 3-4days week! The rest are spent with family but his son gets free education till 16.

Property prices, well we're champion again. Happy for government cos they earn all the stamp duties & gst plus selling or leasing the lands. We just get poorer.

Anyway, lesson learnt. If need a car then get a reliable old coe car under $100k for 10yrs. The $200k or more saved can buy you a sports car or even used supercar in overseas while paying for your holidays in full. Heck you can even work on a lower job for lesser pressure & be happy about it. I suspect somebody's already done it but certainly not me!

The photo of the corniche truly inspires jon.

    What a dream trip.

As for selling the bb, would definitely do so if it could help bring an f40 into the family. I've completely given up on cars in Singapore. Decided that there's more worthwhile things to focus on in life... Like amazing trips to Europe that I see some friends taking ;). And also given up on ever getting rid of the Lambo. Will just run her to the ground and keep to the end as that's the only way I won't lose more on her. Plus she still runs fine. Got a call from Motorway two days ago. Michael actually has a mclaren and willing (obviously) to do a trade but frankly I wasn't even interested. Amazed I even had no interest to deal or even go down and look at the car. I'm clearly over the super car thing. Thanks to the Singapore government.

Somebody is selling a GTO. Wonder whose.

We were already paying crazy prices for the pleasure of owning a car. Now with the new taxes and even talk of making those who want to own more than one car pay more is a SUPER MAJOR TURNOFF. On of the few pleasures for me is when i return from my biz trip, i can go take a spin in my fax and that little pleasure will not be lasting much longer. I think use exotics will be in demand as most will not want to pay those crazy prices for new ones. I am certain owners who buy under the new taxes will take a major bath when they sell. Depreciation as a percentage is going up. Don't see the used car buyers willing to pay more, at most a bit more. Wont be surprise depreciation for an exotic will be in the ball park of at least quarter million in the first year. I can think of lots of things to do with that quarter. I will most probably spend more time overseas, taking short vacations after my biz trip. It's going to cost me a lot less and this govt is not going to earn that money from me.

    I only have one word......AGREED.

It is so weird how things have also turned for me in my views about cars here in Singapore.

I just got offered a position in an Advertising Firm as a Non-Executive Director for Strategy Planning, and got all excited as I figured that the extra income from that position besides me running around doing all my other biz, will help me move towards that dream exotic in a shorter period of time. Was even so willing to put in all the extra hours knowing that it will all pay off when I so comfortably can afford that exotic, and then I begin to realise that as what HG said....there is so much more to life than the exotic. And to be able to just travel, see the world, afford cars overseas at a fraction of the costs.......

and so with that...AGREED. Whatever extra income I earn is now going to be used to do other things with my life. And I too will be buried with my Evora....cause even the Exige S roadster looks expensive now.

Thanks Harold & sorry for the late night rant about expensive cars. Some friends you have there for not taking you along

Actually, we share the same virus of switching perfectly fine rides & sometimes women are easier to lose than a Lambo! :D

I guess the govt has won by making us lose steam & interest in buying cars. But look @ the latest round of Coe price, it went up again! So what happens if they inch up to S$100K as before?

Well we really have to blame ourselves but some of us buy used & even COE cars so we're not exactly pushing up the population even though it indirectly encourages the ex-owners to buy new COEs. Still, I believe that the COE is a malicious act to make us lose money in a 10years period, it's a systematic massacre like entering a slaughter house with a very clever tax rebate system.

Most countries let their cars expire a natural death since most end up in scrapyards unless they continue to maintain them.

An interesting observation on this trip in Italy, for one week+, we did not see a single modern BMW, Mercedes or even Audi. Most, if not all the cars on the roads are small hatchbacks or old saloons & the youngest I saw was an E60 5 series in Rome. SO I guess the recession is hurting the economy really bad & sightings of exotic cars put smiles on the citizens' faces. UK was much better but it's a well known motor country. In fact, we saw convoys of classic cars out on Sunday mornings :)

I hope Singapore won't go down the route of Italy as new cars are becoming impossible to own for most but the most willing. In KL, I see a lot of the new 3 series, Mercs & Audis despite the 200% tax & they're still cheaper than us

Maybe that why it cost alot more than other country safer place to drive and better place to park with good lighting condition. But don't park at the wrong place, else you car will be roaming around the island (Sentosa case) :)

The price of car ownership in Singapore has gone stupid. With the new taxes the cost of a car is probably around 20% of the price of the car. Thats not the end of it as we get screwed on ERP as well. Probably making you think twice about your decision to be base in Singapore.
