Is there an option from Ferrari to make that color red part of the engine to color black or somewhat Carbon Fiber?

The one that has a Ferrari Logo. That red cover there, is there an option to make it in Carbon Fiber?

Not on the list, but $ makes ANYTHING an option.

I have one question: why would you override 40+ years of Ferrari tradition, brand, styling genus and paint it black?

There is an option, MNFC - Carbon Fiber Engine Manifold, that will make it carbon fiber, but it's over $9,000.00.

I suppose you don't realize the red colour of the Ferrari cylinder head cover is where Ferrari got the name "Testarossa" (red head) and that it comes from a famous Ferrari of the 1950s.

I'm also not sure how heat-resistant CF is but you probably won't impress too many Ferraristi by ditching the Testarossa. :)

Not really! Look at 430 Scuderia, it's engine is covered by Carbon Fiber. So don't tell me Ferraristis hate the 430 Scuderia because the COMPANY itself ditch the so called "Testarossa"???

I want to replicate it in a 458. Just want to try something new. It doesn't degrade the car being a Ferrari. It's not that overkill really.

Never knew that the 430 Scud had carbon fibre engine bay. Depending on colour options chosen for rest of the car it will look amazing I am sure!

Well, that's a Scud whereas you are putting it in a regular Italia. The 16M also features a CF cylinder head cover but it also comes standard. Personally-speaking, I would not want to copy features from special editions to a regular model. It's a bit like putting the Scuderia stripe on my FCar's hood.

Yes, you can do whatever you like to personalize your car but the red covers are actually a historical feature. Whereas, other items like the wheels, paintjob, upholstery...etc. are not historical features. If you customize those items, you are not losing a desirable feature from your Ferrari. Non-FCars cannot have the Testarossa. You paid for the exclusivity of a Ferrari, which red engine covers represent.

For 9 grand, I would put it towards a super nice set of wheels instead. Everyone notices those immediately.

Actually buddy, everyone has it's own preferences. I respect your point of view but I do love seeing the engine in Carbon Fiber. Sorry. It's what it is.

EDIT: I've seen one member here, ingpr. He actually has a carbon fiber engine cover in his regular 360. Really, really nice.

Kinda sad that some don't know the difference between an air intake plenum and a cylinder head cover.

Actually it's more so a mistake made out of habit as I come from a BMW background where they put their logo on the the cylinder head covers of the older models I'm familiar with.

But you're right, on the F136 engine it's the intake manifold (with the 2 big can't-miss intake hoses) that sits on top with the Ferrari logo and the cylinder head covers are to the side and below. The reverse of the BMW arrangement.

Anyway, here are the 458 CF vs. red engine covers.

The CF plenums look very cool, but I would then want to do the entire engine bay in CF and that is a lot of coin....

The idea of CF plenums was to reduce weight and lower the CG, they are also standard in Challenge cars.

In terms of painting the plenums, any good restoration shop should be able to accommodate you. Lots of examples on Fchat, I think I've seen BRADAN's thread in NY Regional with many examples. Plenums come off easily, if you want the valve covers to match, that's a bit more involved. On a Spider I'd imagine you have to drop the engine and can't see them anyway...

As for 458 rear window, we have 3K miles and while the rear window does get dirty, I've had zero issues cleaning it, just be cautious (I use invisible glass and a microfiber). The bulkhead window requires a reach, but you can pick up one of those extending glass cleaning wands. I also use compressed air to blow out the engine compartment, it can get dusty. I throw a towel on the rear bodywork when I lean over to prevent accidental scratches.

Heck -- spend a couple hundred bucks after purchase and get them powdercoated or painted by a local shop. Talk to the hotrod crowd, they'll know who the best guys are.

Excellent. I would like to ask a question primarily of mechanical interest. If someone change the carbon fiber intake covers with those which are aluminium will be any problem with the engine mapping?

    Thanks in advance.
