Is it time for OMGJON to restore a Daytona?

  1. ABSOLUTELY YES - I'd love to see him dissect a Daytona into 1000s and 1000s of little pieces!

  2. YES - and he can start with mine!

  3. YES - I'd love to see how much rot is in them too!

  4. YES - but only after he finishes my Dino!

  5. YES - but only after he STARTS my Dino!

  6. NO - I don't want to see the horrors that will be under the skin!

I was just thinking about all of the knowledge and talent that Jon has developed in the process of restoring the various Dino projects that he has tackled, so maybe it would be fun to see him do a Daytona!

    So, lets take a vote!

    How about maybe.

If he doesn't rework it into something it never was, then sure, I'd love to see him do a front to rear, top to bottom, honest to God restoration.

What I would prefer not to see (and no offense intended) is a Daytona that gets different headlights, turn signals that aren't original, a paint color that isn't a Daytona color, etc.

Jon does BEAUTIFUL work, top notch, with abundant details for all to follow, and that's great, but I don't like the modifications he makes to their off the shelf appearance, and there are a hell of lot fewer Daytona's out there to play with. (At least I think there are.)

ive been on him for a while about this. he's warming to the idea. not too worried about mods though, he now firmly believes in originality as he is now doing a 206 dino.

You know, I wouldn't mind having a few minor mods done by Jon if he was restoring my current Dino - for example, a little more heat insulation would not be a bad thing.

I really truly appreciate that he specializes and is passionate about Dinos. There is no one in the world that I know of that specislizes in the Dino. Keep going Jon!!!!

I've looked at a Daytona, it would be way easier than a Dino!!

Daytona's are just not that good looking....that is the honest truth! If you want to change it up..do a 275 gtb or a Miura but not a Daytona. In the meantime keep working on the Dino's!!!

Completely agree. The Daytonas are hideous. Do a 275. Truly a classic.

I have plenty of Dino's to keep me busy! I just bought another one and will be picking it up in Texas as soon as I can get out there. It's a 72 GTS originally Dino Blue Metallic.

Give a shout if you are going to be near Austin. I've got the '69 GT that David Moore at Moorespeed rebuilt and I believe you saw when you were here.

I saw your car and it's beautiful! I have a second home on Lake Travis and come out for a week every other month. Your car was actually using my Master Cylinder so you could drive it in an event while David was awaiting parts for yours!

+1 on the lack of Daytona enthusiasm. The Daytona does absolutely nothing for me.

For change consider a 330 GTC, 512 BB, any 250 series, or even a Stratos.

    Why dilute the gene pool?
    Why not consider
    A full blown rallye Stratos
A cigarette Racer with a brace if Dino Engines......

Jon's love affair with the flares is another modification that I think is a shame. I think though he has only modified his own car and as many say "your car so you can do what you like" ... but great quality of work!

I think he's "been there, done that," so not likely to do that again in the future, unless someone begs him to do it. Remember, that was his personal adventure - which later was sold to someone who "made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

I would NEVER again alter a non flare car. I would never again change USA indicator lights for Euro. My first Dino I did for me how I liked since then my views have changed somewhat. I prefer a completely stock interior with correct vinyl, dash material, carpet. I'm not against changing seat inserts for Daytona seats. I prefer original colors but not opposed to changing to a period correct color. I now prefer a stock Ansa exhaust over a Tubi. I have no problem with using Campagnola wheels even if not delivered that way. So I have pretty much moved to how it came from the factory. I'm not at a 100% but pretty close.

    Jon,

That is fantastic!!! The Dino world is smiling! A little more practice and you'll be ready for mine! BTW, just got the Beige 430 vinyl sample from Luppi. Spot on! Adrian is rebuilding my Dinoplex to his specs. Will keep you posted.

If not, I highly recommend it. It is all about perfecting a never ending process and an end product to be the ultimate best with modesty, passion and conviction.
