Yes. Two pistons were non-factory from a rebuild in the '70s and a bit heavier than the rest, and all were pitted and in bad shape. Plus, we wanted to use a modern ring pack, and the price wasn't bad, about $750 for the set I think, plus the wrist pins. The expensive bit was the small-end bushings, something like $40 apiece...for bronze tubing. The gaskets are copper sprayed and out of the complete seal kit from Sangalli. By the way, expect to encounter seal rings that aren't there or don't fit in that "complete" kit. AR
Oh, I thought the engine was untouched. That's a great price for 12 pistons! So the con-rods needed new bushings?
Can someone post a clear picture of a complete tool kit from a Series 2 Espada please. thanks in advance Gary Espada 8394
A few other things we have learned in doing the conversion: 1. The prop shafts are different lengths; have different couplings at the diff; 2. The diff case is different 3. the gearbox mounts are quite different and are not interchangeable; 4. The Transmission tunnel has a different position for the gear lever and needs modified; These are in addition to the other matters we knew about and which I posted some time ago. I will be keeping the old prop; gearbox; torque convertor; flywheel; pedal box; oil cooler etc so that in future should anyone want to convert it back all the bits are there. I think it would take at least twice the work to do a manual to Auto conversion. When I first thought about this project, I had no idea how different the auto and manual cars were!
Hi Gary, Here is what I have. Hammer is a replacement. Philippe S2 7987 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here you go Gary. The open end spanners are 19/22mm, 14/17mm, 10/11mm, the 7/8mm one is missing on this photo (somewhere in the garage....). Philippe S2 7987 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Different hammers between your two photo sets? What's the tool on the far left that's just a shaft? My lead hammer is just a mangled crag of junk with a few splinters embedded in it. A clear indication of a careful and patient expert owner at work on those spinners ... As for the missing wrench ... try looking in that front chin of body work under the radiator. When I cleaned all of that out I found one of my missing wrenches. That and a long list of curse words buried under all the muck that collected in there. On my car that area has no drain hole. So it can collect an inch of water. Are other cars different? I plan on putting a couple of 1/4" drain holes on the ends and see if that's enough.
Gary, recently Andrew Romanowski said he has a source for reproduction T-handle sparkplug wrenches and the black canvas bags. Though he did say he thought interior guys would charge $400 for the black canvas bags. I think I'll have my wife sew them up. They don't look all that complicated or well made. I can't say I think these are exactly befitting these cars but they're original.
Let me know if you need close ups or measurements - I have both original bags for an S1. The canvas is pretty sturdy but you're correct, they're not what you'd expect to find in a Lamborghini.
Thanks. I do have the bags and new ones would improve the look but only just slightly ... I think I'd like a nice leather pouch for when I'm using the car and save the black burlap for the sticklers out there. I'm missing the lineman pliers and all hammers. Maybe one wrench? That plastic circular doohickey is cracked in half. I guess I could try and glue it then cover it with some kind of finish? It's not likely that I'm ever going to use the jack on this car. Most likely it's AAA flat bed service.
I've never found any pliers yet, but came across a hammer and some convincing wrenches while traveling in Austria to see family a few years ago, just for samples of what's out there. Even rifled through my brother-in-law's tool boxes to see if he had anything! The wrenches are Merox brand but the ribbing isn't as pronounced. Red handled screwdrivers might make good substitutions for a later car, or for a dino/3x8 Ferrari. Flutes aren't very pronounced. Brand is Meister - "West Germany". What is the steel hammer used for? Interesting that the little Weber jet wrench is in the S1 & S2 toolkit but not the S3.
Bob I would love a canvas tool bag and would pay for her efforts. My jack bag is identical to the first photo for s2 jack bag but its vinyl! I have to older long jack and bag . I have the spark plug tool and the knock off hammer and that's it . I am going to talk to Jacques re the wrenches he's doing but the rest has proved illusive so far Gary Espada 8394
Well it ain't going to happen in a hurry Gary. We're in the tail end of a first floor house repair/remodel and on our way to the Montana meet. So things are bit scatterbrained at the moment. I had another look today and that plastic doughnut thingy doesn't even fit over the jack extension shaft I have so I'm very confused. SNAFU. I hope everyone takes great pictures of your car at Le Belle Machinne de Italia (whoops it's Europa now). Sorry I'm going to miss it this year. Maybe I can bring back some Moose meat for you ...
Bob the bag is secondary. The real shame is that your going to miss Le belle whatever its called just 2 weeks tomorrow!!!! Looks like it might now be back to what it was say 4 years ago !! Tons of updates and Maserati NA involvements bringing some serious classic to the party AND Lambo 50th etc etc . You will be missed as will that blue smoking lump of yours. I am hoping I wont be the ONLY Espada there ?? Phillipe?? Incidentally My mates are bringing some cars including a 1948 Alfa 6c2500 that's a real show stopper . We plan to show YOU Yanks some decent metal for a change Gary Espada 8394
Hi Everyone, I am trying to make Montana. I may have (crossing fingers) the clutch back Tuesday. Also, I am installing a electromotive ignition. As you can see, I took the engine/trans out as it had oil front/rear seal leaks. The Laust oil slinger is now installed. Bob Huber Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Bob, Good idea! It maked me realize that I was missing the jet wrench. I found one in my tools, but not sure 100% if it is the original one..? Philippe S2 7987 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
