Well, if he has done it for 20 years, does not need to write anything down because he has photographic memory, has all the right tools in place, knows all the short cuts, and the car is in such good shape that none of the studs break or the nuts frozen in place, then well, maybe in 2 hours. Hell, it took me 20 minutes alone to clean up the coolant mess because I did not want to slip on that slippery stuff and kill myself. It is for this very reason that the very smart Dave Helms invented the block drain device.

Pap, let me give you a hint toward your 2 hour goal: Devise a way to plug up the brake and clutch lines. Not with a plastic bag, and a rubber band. Otherwise, you will end up with a big mess and a very tough time bleeding your master cylinder.

Wow! 2 hours to drop the engine I am betting you didn't mean that seriously and yes I have done my own engine out. Unless of course the 348 is much easier than my 355.

Don't worry mate, before I attempt it I will have all the tools laid out next to me so I don't go searching (after 17 years in the trade you know how to tell the size spanner/socket you need just by looking at the head of the bolt) will have everything in place to make it as easy for me as possible and I always devise a plan of attack before I start any job I have never done before.

We both know I won't do it in 2 hrs being my first time, but I will give it a red hot go. :D

    Okayokayokay, I'll do an engine-out...

And while I am doing it, I can adress the noisy gearbox or tranny.
Any how-to's on rebuilding the gearbox? In the last 5 years it has gradualy build up a gentle whine in 4th & 5th..
Is the gearbox rebuild doable or should I send it out to god-knows-who?

    Happy wrenching!
    Ben

Do the belt guide rest on the belt or is there supposed to be a clearance. I didn't recall seeing anything in the service manual regarding them?

    Dave,

The guides are not on the belt. Aprox 8 mm gap between them.

    Regards. Ben

Okay, it took me 2 hours to Jack her up and put the stands on the right spots.
Every time I work on the 348 I end up cleaning and polishing al the aluminium parts....
Anyways, after removing the underpannels, I noticed the airco compresser being loose. The spanner was hanging by a threat, causing the belt to be totaly wobbely.
Therefor I think I have found my screamer.
Ofcourse the marks on the other belt are under investigation...

    Regards. Ben.
