I've not read this before ... FIAT? All tracks back then were about enabling the cars to go as fast as possible. But: Pete
Beautifully stated..... Because it's *always* been that way? I guess I don't understand how, on the one hand, you can say "I love Monaco" and then say it shouldn't score points because it's atypical? That's a lot of it's appeal to me; The drivers need to "behave" differently. It's an engineering challenge. It's one race out of 19 every year. Points are handed out the same as all the other races. Yes, the crown is gaudy, but that applies to most crowns! Cheers, Ian
More like 40-150-40 in 10 sec, no? I agree it should stay for many of the stated reasons (F1 promotion, heritage, etc), but it's hardly a race IMO.
I know next to nothing about F1. I've been to Monaco, in fact I can see the sign for the hotel I stayed in (Fairmont). Oh, my point is, I saw a pass a few minutes ago. See... it can happen! GT
Why IS Red Bull so much better than everyone else?? Is it Vettel? Newey? It's actually a bit absurd how dominant they've been going on four years now. Granted, Alonso is every bit the driver Vettel is and, perhaps, then some, but a stupid drink maker is, once again, sh*tting all over (among others) the most famous name in F1.
Pure entertainment, overtaking, strategy and more importantly the cars being unleashed in full anger, not some procession and the dictate of one driver on a circuit that all its got going for it is charisma.
From the BBC summary of Canada: "It was indeed a real race - the polar opposite of the procession of Monaco, where Mercedes controlled the pace to their own advantage. In that sense, the Canadian Grand Prix was refreshing. What was on show in Montreal was F1 in the traditional sense, flat-out racing between the best drivers in the best cars in the world. It was, then, a representation of the real competitive picture in F1, a clear demonstration of the capabilities of the fastest car in the field in the hands of a formidable talent. " Everything Monaco is not. Yes it will stay on the calendar but I agree compared to a real F1 race its a tolerated deviation to pander to the rich, and tax dodging glamo of F1. BBC Sport - Canadian GP: The truth hurts for Alonso & Hamilton over Vettel win
Eloquently put DF1, but I don't find myself agreeing with Andrew Benson BBC Alonso was not crushed, but they do suffer from poor qualifying. To that end they find themselves always in 4th,5th or 6th from the start and on the back foot. The Ferrari is extremely consistant and a worthy front contender, however how much Red Bull have in reserve is another matter.
Yes my point was only the piece about Monaco and real racing. The other part is anyone's guess as to development with respect to FA vs Vettel, RB vs Ferrari. I also posted the link to give credit where it was due for the BBC data on the Monaco mention.
The RB has a lot of unused race speed unlike the Ferrari. The question is given the fragile tires how much of that speed can be used.
Benson is an Alonso hater. Take his comments with a grain of salt. After Monaco, he wrote a column about how Alonso might be "past it" - when he had just taken a dominant win 2 weeks prior in Spain. Rubbish.
That's the worrying trend with RB, however I do think they are struggling at times. Vettel is definitely the difference. Webber is no slow coach but when you see him struggling you just know the difference is the driver. The team obviously pour their heart and soul into Vettel's career Lets hope Rory Byrnes 2014 challenger can kick some sand in Neweys/Vettel/Horners face Tony
Are they more apt to fail than MB or Ferrari? Honda is giving themselves an extra year and I expect them to be fast out of the box.
Last time around it took Renault a lot longer than MB and Ferrari. Vettel would already have 4 titles otherwise
