Wasn't that more because of Brawn's diffuser than it was problems with the Renault?

When I first starting watching the final day of the Tour De France, I didn't get it. (The last day of the world's greatest race really isn't a race at all.)

Monaco seems a little like watching the peloton pedal toward to Champs Elysees. More ceremonial than sport.

And this stupid thread keeps dribbling on. If you honestly think there is no place for Monaco then you don't get F1 IMO.

I suggest you go and watch the American CART or Indy series where they bore everybody to death with ovals ... as that is what your views ultimately are saying, ie. the only place for these modern cars are ovals. Think about it. Monaco has slow corners, then it will be the next track that you whine about and so on.

Monaco is THE driver test and simply awesome, end of discussion.

No, he had lots of engine DNFs. Basically cost him the title in 2009 (or at least a fair shot at it).

The Brawns were falling back as the season progressed.

But soon some idiot will be sending a petition to Bernie to get it removed from the calendar ... heck I'd have to resort to nudie protests, hugging armco or something!

While I may bear some responsibility for suggesting that Monaco become a non-points race let me clear. I'd rather see it stay as is than be lost entirely.
Not that can ever happen. It's far too valuable commercially and provides far too much historical perspective in a sport that is fast loosing its roots.

    Amen.

F1 needs variety, it needs history and it needs driver challenges where somebody can man handle an imperfect aerodynamic brick to a win.

All modern tracks simply give in to aerodynamic superiority and the drivers just steer it home. Far bigger yawn than Monaco where the chance of a minute driver error changing the result of the race is always present.

That being the case we should reinstate the Indy 500 as part of the World Championships.
It too offers a unique set of challenges.

    True.

I wonder if Jim Clark got points for the F1 championship when he competed ... I assume yes?

    Interesting question.

    And Graham Hill?

That would be a fascinating event. US F1 at Indy on the oval replacing Monaco. Speed and passing! What would we all do then :)

All the competitors of the Indy 500 in the fifties got WDC points. They are all listed on Formula 1® - The Official F1® Website as F1 drivers and their teams are all listed as F1 teams. And beginning 1958 the teams participating in Indy 500 also got WCC points.

    As they should have.

I'm curious as to how that came about. On the face of it the Indy 500 had little in common with F1.

The track really wasn't all that different from Monza at the time.
