BAD experience with Tirerack

call your credit card company and dispute the charge.
seems out of place for tire rack always had a good experience with them

 

+1. Shipping defective and dangerous product. Probably a violation of the Uniform Commercial Code...

 

I have heard of this before.......on big 4WD set ups...now on pricey go fast tires....keep us posted on how it ends.

 

Same issue with Americas Tire, also tried to pawn off 3 year old stock, will never buy there again.

Raise a stink, I bet they do you right, they don't want bad publicity. And like others said, dispute with CC Company. I could see up to one year old, at the most, but not 3.

On the age of tires, I think they can not sell tires over 5 years old, and that may or may not be a law, just a recommended age.....again not sure but they legally can probably sell them.

4 digit code, numerical, denotes week/year. 2212, 1213, etc. not always on the side facing out, could be on inside -

2010 doesn't make it dangerous. i don't see how you are going to claim this as such.

You can return it but you'll pay for shipping.

While newer is better, a two year difference isn't going to make a difference unless your car is a garage queen. Tires wear out every 2 years if you put 5k miles per year.

tire rack will not stand behind their products. bought high end brake rotors that immediately warped. tire rack said they cant warranty "abuse". wtf?!
avoid tire rack, buy local.

First of all, why would you buy brake products from a tire reseller.

Second, Tire rack doesn't manufacture the brake stuff, so you probably have to deal with the manufacturer on this defective claim. If your claim holds water then you will get replacements.

 

I have purchased multiple tires from TireRack as well, but the problem dealing with an internet retailer is shipping cost. Yes, when all is well, you'll save a few bucks. When there is a dispute, no one wants to pay return shipping cost and restocking fee.

I have also purchased multiple tires from America's Tire Co locally. All were fresh production tires. I have had nothing but great experience with them. Free rotations and flat repair even if the tires were NOT purchased from them. The staffs have always been very polite and professional. I just asked for a quote on a new set of Michelin Super Sports for the F430, and they are now able to match and beat TireRack's prices.

Tires should be fine for at least 6-7 years after the date of manufacture, and I don't even get 2 years out of the 19-inchers on my Audi.

 

The U.S. DOT Tire Identification Number is not to ensure "freshness" of the tires, but rather to identify the factory, month and year of production in order to identify possible quality control problems, such as the Firestones on Ford Explorers.

But I understand your frustration. They delivered something different than what they promised you.

Forget about it. Drive them down to the cords and have fun!

I wouldn't worry about it. Sure, they may not have all of the grip as a newer tire, but unless you're tracking it, you won't be able to tell the difference.

 

Maybe, but maybe not. How about that cold rainy night when you look down to adjust the defroster and then you look up to see that those tail lights up ahead are STOPPED. Thats when fresh rubber might make the difference between a bit of a fright and an opportunity to check the operation of your airbag. Of course, nobody drives a Ferrari at night, in the winter, or in the rain, so no real problem, right?

Back when I was doing a bit of amateur racing, Yokohama was one of my sponsors and they always made sure to supply me with tires not older than a couple of months. It does make a difference.

But what is disappointing is the fact that the OP's supplier promised one thing and did another. I'd be mad too, especially if they refuse to make it right.

 

If you drive your car 500 miles per year and want these tires to last 10 years then you should consider sending them back. Otherwise, I wouldn't have the slightest concern as you will replace them well before the serviceable date expires.

 

^ agree, the fresher the rubber the better. especially on a hi perf car.
i also have had great experiences with Americas Tire Co. highly recommend them.

 

@malibuguy, tire rack sells brake products. check their website. they would be the point of return. when you buy something from costco, do you return the product to costco or hunt down the items manufacturer/distributor?? lol

 

It makes a difference if the tires are not stored properly, but if they are in climate controlled storage out of sunlight they will not age anywhere near as much as tires that are on a car. Tires that are 3 years old but new and in proper storage will be equivalent to tires that were taken right from the factory and installed and have been in use for 3 or 4 months.

Racing tires are a different story, especially once they've been heat cycled.

 

+1 but I think it was diligent of the OP to call and check production dates. It is bad that they did not follow through and send those tires with the dates they quoted to you. That is just poor customer service and I would avoid them in the future.

Check the rubber for suppleness and compare to the same, existing tires if possible. If you're like any of us you'll be replacing them before the 10 year time limit anyway.

Thanks for alerting us, I'll never buy from them after hearing this. Returning them and paying any shipping cost is far too much hassle to deal with when they could have just sent what they quoted you.
