I want to track down a plug that will fit the service light socket under the dashboard of my 328 so that I can use it for a satnav. There was a link here from some years back but it doesn't go anywhere now. Does anybody know of a supplier of a suitable connector?

It was for a motorcycle plug.
I bought one, let me see if I can track it down.

They are called Merit plugs. Most electronic component stores have them.

I fitted a female one on the inside front wheel well where the AC condenser grill is and wired it straight to my battery.I charge my battery through a trickle charger which has the male plug.

    Here is one on Ebay.

I think there were two size plug/sockets for the emergency light. The plug on the light I purchased on E Bay is too big to fit the socket in my 86 328. Just ordered the plug linked to E Bay earlier in this thread. Pictured plug looks same as one on the light. Hope its a little smaller.

Some emergency lights plugs into the cigarette lighter, some others in the socket under the dashboard.
To this day, I still don't know exactly which were the cars delivered with the first type, which were the cars delivered with the last, or when in the car's production did the change took place.
What I know is that both my '89 have emergency lights that plug only under the dash.

Wow! Thanks for pointing that out, now I can use my 328 emergency light on my BMW GS motorcycle but these lights are selling for pretty pennies on Ebay so I'll leave it alone then...Back then I saw these lights sold for around 100 bucks or less now they are selling for around $200...

Went out to the garage and tried once again to plug light into socket under dash. Found the contacts surrounding the plug were out of position slightly. Snugged them into position with pliers and a small worm clamp and it works fine
