Okay we seem to be largely agreeing. I reckon $33/month is less than what we will be paying if we allow this government to keep providing blank cheques to the providers ...

My point regarding offshoring was to debate against this incorrect theory that the NBN was an investment in Australia's IT future and it will lead to growth in the industry. As you rightly say, and I agree, it won't. Australia will remain an IT consumer, it will never be the source.
    Agree.

I think the comments on smh.com.au in regards to Liberals comments to make these changes to the NBN indicate that many do in fact see this as improvements to their Facebook time, etc.

I wish the Liberals had simply lied about this and once in power made this public. How many young and stupid voters have we (they) lost?

The REALLY BIG question is .... should I buy more Telstra.

They went up 8 cents yesterday after the announcement, today they are down 5.5c after Turnbull hosed down expectations.

I cannot believe the hatred i hear daily about her and the Labour government.

Retail is dying in the arse waiting for the election and it's inevitable result.

Surely the worst Government in the history of this country.

    They know they are gone.

She's there on the tv saying how the pay rise is out of her control.

Maybe she could have won some PR by forgoing that this time around?

Oh, there's another review in 6 months as well.

Don't forget she's the one who put this in motion straight after she got in and also the fact she earns more than Barak Obama. . .

Absolutely without a shadow of a doubt. Hopefully she will be unemployable after removal from office.

I can't wait to see her get her just deserts over that union fraud.

    We need this guy...

Clive Palmer says he is too rich to be corrupted.

‘‘I’m uncorruptible (sic). You could offer me a billion dollars and it won’t change my view because I’ve already got a billion dollars,’’ the mining magnate turned political candidate has told the ABC.

The Palmer United Party is planning to contest every seat at the federal election, and Mr Palmer will run in the Queensland seat of Fairfax.

On $500K pa for the rest of her life I wouldn't bother getting out of bed each day.

He is right on the "money side" of things...............but what about things that don't have a dollar value attached?

He would be just as corrupt as the rest of us.

Yes but will "The Beard" welcome her back, he might have to ask for a pay rise at the salon.
There will be a line at the door of ex-pollies. Bligh, Carmen Lawrence, Kirner, Keneally, that's a lot to get through in a day. You would have to dress like a reject from Fukushima just to do the waxing.

She'll make tidy sums as a speaker at women's forums, unions will have her. One of the more disappointing things about her time in office is the way she has been attempting to leverage her gender for political advantage. That blue ties speech was truly absurd, and the misogyny speech was staggeringly hypocritical given the events that brought it about.

Sign up here if you want Kevin back as PM

I just can't get my head around how Labor refuse to bow into the pressure to put Rudd in as leader. Sure he doesn't have a reputation for being a team player, but it sure beats the alternative by a country mile.

When a party's MPs are publicly speaking to the media in disdain of their leader you know you've got problems.

I suspect they would still lose under Rudd. If Rudd himself shares that belief behind closed doors, would he want to put his head on the chopping block?

Maybe so; but would the average intelligent women hold her up as an icon for women? I sure wouldn't if I was female.

Probably not and I suspect that's part of the reason he doesn't want to put his hand up.

They still need to get into damage control to save as many seats as they can.

Short term memory. Krudd was ditched by his own party as PM with no mandate from the public. Kevin 747 was never here, and was so busy setting himself up for the U.N. he forgot to do his job. Gave away Billions, and was generally a show boat. Krudd and Fanta Pants are both as useless as a fart in a fan factory. Gilllard has illustrated over and over, even on a good day, she is a dangerous manipulative liar.
Apart from a dictatorship, where else can you keep putting your wages up while thousands are loosing there jobs in an election year.

one thing i've learnt about politics, or really democracy in general, is that it has nothing to do with people's memory about what had happened in the past. 1/3 of the population are diehard labor voters, 1/3 are liberal, they will vote for their "team" regardless how dumb they or their policies are.

The other 1/3 (neutral) lot is what these two camps are fighting for grabs, in which only about 10% of that 1/3 is people like us who actually gives a **** about the economy, education, infrastructure, public sector growth and so on, and we make our "best" judgement on who should be in power.

the other 90% of the 1/3 doesn't really give a damn who they vote for, because they don't believe it will make any difference, so they makes their decision through TV (the night before election), or throw a dummy vote, or pick the candidate by eenie meenie minie moe, because THEY have NO CHOICE but to vote, and there, we have our prime minister.

I prefer a benign dictatorship actually.

WISE WORDS FROM FATHER TO DAUGHTER

A young woman was about to finish her first year of university. Like
so many others her age, she considered herself to be Labor Party
minded, and she was very much in favour of higher taxes to support
her education and for more government programs in other words,
the redistribution of wealth. (Much like a Carbon Tax?)

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch
blue-ribbon Liberal, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on
the lectures that she had attended and the occasional chat with a
professor, she felt that her father had for years harboured a selfish
desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher
taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs.

The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors must be
the truth, and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking
how she was doing at university.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 90% average,
and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was
taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which
left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't
even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many university
friends because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, How is your best friend Audrey doing? She
replied, Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she
never studies and she barely has a 50% average. She is so popular on
campus; university for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties,
and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too
    hung over.

Her wise father asked his daughter, Why don't you go to the Dean's office
and ask him to deduct 20% off your average and give it to your friend who
only has 50%. That way you will both have a 70% average, it would be fair
and you would both be equal.

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back,
That's a crazy idea; how would that be fair! I've worked really hard for my
grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done
next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, Welcome to the
    Liberal side of the fence.

If anyone has a better explanation of the difference between Liberal and
    Labor/Greens, I'm all ears.
