I can't believe no one has posted this yet. I think I want to sell my house and buy this car. Seriously. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVdme4ISq8Y]New Porsche 991 GT3. First Drive. - /CHRIS HARRIS ON CARS - YouTube[/ame]
covered over here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/porsche/400626-991-gt3-revealed-pdk-only-9000-rpm-485-hp-etc.html am I the only one getting tired of Chris Harris?
I hope so. He's such a refreshing journalist amongst the "This car does 0-60 in... It handles well... The gearbox is fast... The quality is good..." crowd. There are thousands of review videos on YouTube and IMO 90% are just garbage (very generic, predictable and boring). This guy is absolutely brilliant because he isn't afraid of telling it like it is! It also helps that he can drive like a champ (see his 458 Spider video) and is a 100% total car nut.
agreed, I think he's the only car guy I can actually sit & enjoy listening to IMO wicked car, love that new Porsche!!
I agree but...he come across sometimes as a drama queen sometimes. He needs to tone it down a notch. At some point it's more commentary than reporting, and a bit melodramatic.
i just finished the latest R&T, so i may be a tad over exuberant after reading that drivel and then watching.....
Absolutely agree. I think he is the best automotive journalist out there, bar none. He is on-point, well researched, well-spoken, up-to-date, and a good reporter. Oh, AND he can drive!
nope, 75+% of the time in his video's is just looking at him yap. I want to see cars and cool roads. This comes to mind; [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uecapxuY-k]Matt Foley Yapper - YouTube[/ame]
The best car commentator working today, by a long shot. I've always found him informative but fair, not afraid to criticize which of course put him in Ferrari's dog house. The GT3 video was a great example, where the car has moved forward technically, but laments the spirit of the concept is disappearing.
Chris does a superb review as usual but about the GT3, this particular 991 version is superb and wins the race! However, I think I'll rather pickup the last 997 manual gear box GT3 if I really want a drivers car that is enjoyable all around! Automatic has always been for the ladies so they dont chip a nail ! Sometimes less is simply more !
I never search him out, never, because he is always the same, but I watched this because it was here. Here are 2 examples of good review styles for Car Reviewer's 101 Clarkson on camera 10% of time car 80% [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Q0Svvdrx_E]Aston Martin Vantage - Top Gear - BBC - YouTube[/ame] Sutcliffe on camera 15% of time car car 85% [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8EPRWLPhWk]Aston Martin V12 Vantage v Porsche GT2 - By Autocar.co.uk - YouTube[/ame] I want to see the car, I want to hear the car, I don't really care much about these guy's opinions, I want facts, 0-60, 60-0, then if there is a group ride then I don't mind clowning around if they are funny. Harris probably is on a shoestring budget or likes seeing himself.
Clarkson is good? OMG.... Clarkson is funny and entertaining, but a good serious objective commentator or journalist he is not.
I said Clarkson used a good style (not being a lens hog) in making the video and I don't mind clowning around in group rides. Upon careful reading we agree.
I see plenty of roads in Chris Harris' videos. I see plenty of car in Chris Harris' videos. I get all the relevant real world facts in Chris Harris' videos. Even when the camera is on him, I'm still seeing car, and I have no problem looking at Harris or listening to him. Why should I? As for a journalistic comparison with Messrs Clarkson, Sutcliffe, et al, there isn't one. Harris is in a league by himself. Better by a country mile.
Erm... you can watch official launch videos if you don't care about opinion of the reviewer. I think CH is really in a league of his own when you want to now how a car drives like before you get a chance to drive it yourself. Besides, there are still plenty of beautiful shots of the car in his videos. And this particular one is not very representative, since his cameraman was not with him due to the fact it was unscheduled test-drive of an engineering car. And he clocks lap-times, 0-60 etc. on group tests quite frequently. So I can's see where you are coming from tbh
Like Harris, love the car... My daily driver is currently a 997 GT2 and I just love it. Regardless, I'm thinking about putting a deposit down on the new GT3.
