Nasty lookin' bit o'scrap you've got yourself there Trev! Can't imagine it will be all that quiet though? What kind of levels are you trying to get under?
Hi Trev -- Haven't heard much more on this project so just curious what's happened since March. Also one specific question: I've been thinking about flanblocs with respect to my CS, particularly wondering how the CS item differs from that for the Modena. Back in 2010 you were saying the CS uses challenge flanblocs, which at least based on part numbers appears not to be the case. Do you have any updated information on that? Which flanblocs are you using on your car?
Careful guys, Trev led me to the dark side !!!! Trev, I'm ready for next phase !!
GOOD JOB! Nice to see more people converting their FCars....now lets get some power put into that beast!
Ahhh... Mark you have the CCM's fitted! Yay! How do you find them? A big step up from the 360 stoppers huh! They look awesome! Your missing the CF door handles, pm me!
Gents, Sorry for the lack of updates recently, this has been due to personal reasons. I have completely neglected my 'car fix', with forum usage hitting a speed bump for nearly a year but finally today I'm back and will be posting her regularly again! Sadly my poor 360 hasn't turned a wheel since Sept 2012, just after the Guinness World Record event in Silverstone. It has been sitting there fully insured and taxed in a dehumidified temperature regulated garage with nowhere to go (boo hoo) and I've been thousands of miles away... So before the first drive I will be doing a full oil change before trying to start her up! It was quite an emotional event today see and wash the car after nearly a year. Haven't yet gone for a drive but just admiring the curves and shape. I'm impressed how well it looks after all these years. Still a stunner! Anyway in the proceeding months just because I've not had time to do anything car related it hasn't stopped me collecting bits... Here's a few new bits which will be gracing my car soon... Extremely rare Michelotto GT 'go faster' race bits... Mmmm. Watch this space! Just in case your interested, that original Ultra rare CF bonnet tips the scales at just over 4kg's... Thanks Michael. Its been great to come back and read all the posts I've missed. A lot of reading to do!
FINALLY, Trev is back, and with the much elusive Michelotto bits as well. I can´t bare myself to read the upcoming posts in this thread.
Cant wait to see the michellotto bits on. This, along with travellers f40 lm, is my favourite project on fchat. In the next year or 2 i hope to make a lightweight 550 maranello "GTO".
Hi Trev, Glad to see you are back online. A question in regards to extracting more power out of a 360 namely challenge stradale. What would you suggest can be done without opening up the engine or putting on a turbo or supercharger?
The 360 GT's have a much wider front track than the road cars. I know some of it is in the front wheel; but I suspect most of it is found in the suspensions "A arms" you have. No doubt you already know; but I think you might need those seriously flared 1/4 panels the GT's wear as well. Possibly a new front bar assembly as the CS one won't fit. I've got a 360 N-GT Michelotto in my garage, might have to have a poke around and see
Good to see you back and posting, Trev! Since you started this thread I've moved from Aberdeen to London to Singapore to the US and am now looking out for a CS of my own! Keep the updates and pictures coming - definitely one of my favourite car projects on the web!
Well after weighing the 360 Challenge exhaust I decided I would swap over the Titanium exhaust to see the differences. Here's some observations regarding the genuine 360 Challenge system from Ferrari; Heat shielding The Challenge race exhaust includes full heat shielding which prevents a large amount of the heat escaping. This is a positive as it reduces engine bay temperatures by quite some margin (and subsequently air intake temps too). Removal/Refitting The great thing about the Timate and the 360 Challenge exhausts is that due to their small size they are easy to remove and refit without removing the rear bumper/fender. Took about an hour to remove and refit as a result. The exhaust pipes are single entry which means they have a lot of spare space around the exit point in the bumper/fender. The construction appears very high quality with extra strong mounting flanges which I fitted for now against the standard mount (challenge cars do include a lighter weight gearbox endcap and specific bracket which saves maybe a couple of kg from the 'box). I will fit this once I do a gearbox oil change. First impressions (after the obligatory battery reset) The Timate is at least TWICE as loud as the 360 Challenge Race system. In fact I am beginning to think the Timate doesn't have any sound deading in there at all! The 360 Challenge system sounds much quieter at idle and cruising at moderate speeds their is no resonation and actually it quietens out once driving at around 60-70mph allowing conversations without shouting! It sound uncannily like a Stradale when accelerating hard with that good old fashioned 'gargling' sound eminating from the flat plane crank. Wonderful. Its far more socially acceptable than the Timate. Power/Performance The performance is yet to be dyno'd but I would think the Timate makes more torque and power than the 360 Challenge system. From the seat of the pants its not a huge difference but it *IS* noticeable. The Timate feels like the car rev's more freely too however compared to most aftermarket systems this is still seriously loud and actually sounds very nice. Styling The Challenge exhaust looks are an acquired taste since the heat shielding looks a bit messy in an otherwise immaculate engine bay and the single outlet exhaust pipes look a bit odd when your used to seeing twin pipes popping out. Weight Unsurprisingly the Timate wins out here (being Titanium vs Steel), however you might not believe this but 360 Challenge system is vastly lighter than the 360 Race Exhaust fitted to the CS and Modena. Its still less than 9.5kg's fitted and if you fit the lightweight gearbox engine cap its on par with the Timate (despite being steel!). Fit the gearbox cap plate with a Timate and you get even more weight saved. I'm convinced if designed to the same as the 360 Challenge system a Titanium constructed version would weight about 4kg's! Overall I was actually rather impressed, I get the impression of solid, strong and very well made. Its also half the weight of the so called '360 Race Exhaust' and while (obviously) a lot louder, its still livable and really tuneful. If you can get one I actually recommend it. I like it so much I think I will keep it on the car for a while and see how I go... Yes, I'd be seriously interested in a 360 N-GT / 360GT front flared arch conversion. Not sure my bank manager would approve though!
Lol. It has been going on for quite some time. I apologize if the velocity isn't as fast as some other projects but to say I'm happy with the results is quite an understatement. To modify a Ferrari you really need to take your time. Ironically almost all the best upgrades I've done have been using genuine parts which says a lot really about how well the Challenge cars have been engineered.
