F40 on fast and loud

That's what I would guess Rob. $500K to $700K for an unmolested car.

Something like the Fast and Loud car has to go at a discount to that IMO.

If not then our price guess is way off.

I actually think they are worth more than that if "nice" and original. I know mine is not available in that price range and it has rock chips and astronomical miles at 14K or so on the clock. I may be crazy, but I don't think many owners are parting with them right now and I bet no good cars have changed hands in that range this year. I personally think $700K is the low end for a decent driver car and go up from there if you want low miles, pristine cosmetics, classiche, etc.

The figures thrown around on that show are pure fantasy. There's no way anyone with half a brain would pay more than $150-200k for that wreck to begin with and to say 3 guys lined up with $900k when they were done for a badly wrecked and rebuilt F40 that's been hotrodded by a few guys in Texas? My ass. You could get a perfect car with delivery miles for less than that.

I think the dumbest part of the show was when they removed the original seats that looked to be in perfect condition and threw in some Recaros that you might see at the local Honda meet. Plus, the comments at the end about how the original wheels sucked (are they kidding?!), why couldn't Ferrari build it like this to begin with, etc. What a bunch of self-righteous crap.

I think the car actually looked cool when they were done. I loved the wheels. The LED headlights looked horrendous, though. I think painting the car black was also a mistake. You lose all the lines, creases and details when it's black.

 

Kevin - I'm just guessing on prices. I really do not keep up. I am suprised they have gone that high.

I get a call every couple of months on mine but I like the car as well.

So my son who is home from college tunes in to the show last night and invites me to watch & see what all the fuss was about.

Value - I'd actually give a little more than you suggest, and I would professionally appraise this car in its current state taking into account its provenance at $300k to $400k.

Options - Now that the frame has been straightened and the engine & trans work, its not such a long journey home, and I'd send it to Maranello and restore it back to absolute bone stock as it was originally built, Classiche certify it, and have them re-deliver it back to my client or myself. They'd be only too happy to oblige. I think people who think a standard F40 is not fast/wild/horny/awesome enough are funny. I think returning to stock and rescuing the car completely is a great idea, and there is a trend towards that.

The Show - IMO the characters on the show are legends in their own ego-driven minds, are so full of themselves they haven't the time to get a clue what they are talking about half the time as it relates to the F40, and the scenarios regarding money are entirely fake. Remember, its TV, nothing more than entertainment. People who have $900k know how to check around and find out what else they can buy, and yes, I was contacted about this car by more than one person.

As it sits, I completely agree. The 150-200 number I threw out was my thoughts on the value when the car was still in it's wrecked state. Out of curiosity, if you had to guess, what do you think they really paid for it to begin with?

watching them jig that frame out and bring it into spec was friggin cool.

they came up with a bad A$$ ferrari track car in the end. - i think they did a nice job picking up where enzo left off years ago.

 

not sure if you're serious or if you really don't know how "reality" tv works. look up product placement and re-watch the show. everything will make a lot more sense.

When they tried to drop the engine in and only 3 of 4 mounting points lined up, ANYONE could see that that frame was still twisted. Then when they actually cut off the mounting bracket and welded it back on, I was thinking "who in their right mind would pay $900k (top dollar) for this car with its Franken-frame?"

 

This guy, he gets it. It's safe to say everything said on the show is scripted and facts and figures around the cars are flat out lies to make more interesting tv. Really to bad. I'm sure we'd all prefer the real numbers were used.

 

Joe I think your remarks are spot on; what I think is driving prices up on the F40 is not only rarity, but it is a damned good car to actually own. It is an event to drive and demands respect of the driver. It is also very reasonable to maintain - Ironically cheaper than a 3x8 since the engine never has to come out for any service, including belts. And even if you are just a poseur, this car has about a bazillion times more curb appeal than a 458 or other modern Ferrari, but won't depreciate like them. Given people paying over $300K for 458s, why not pay 2-3x that for an F40? But why would an owner sell? I think the skyrocketing price for modern Ferraris just escalates the value of older icons, as I personally would not pay even 25% of the value of the F40 for a modern Ferrari (LaF excluded) since I view the F40 as 10 times the car with no financial downside. I suspect that the owner of this car got a cool F40 for way less than normal and I know Luongo got it running right, so the owner can just drive it and not sweat any road rash.

 

Wow,there's alot to cover but Ill try. The exaggeration of cost of the vehicle before and after its done is annoying to the somewhat knowledgeable car people but it is tv. The absolute hacking and yes it was outright hacking of a car like an F40 that few here own and many dream of was to say the least disturbing. The"mods" were put in place,imho, for the shows effect and to save money as the true parts from italy are far more expensive than the crap they put on. The lame paint over was rediculous and the engine not properly lining up just shows everyone the lack of attention to detail that permeated throughout the entire process. The ending was agreed on before the start of the process and was also a farce. A true butcher job by butchers. IMHO some cars shouldnt be fixed and if its decided that they will be fixed then there are few special people that can financially undertake that task without wincing at all at costs and time frame. Since most here are familiar with Enzo repairs,the costs,time,patience that we have seen in the past is really incredible and this show flew in the face of that by the means of repair. So one part of the frame doesnt line up which means.......other parts dont line up.........what ever.
Anyone here want to see if it tracks stright at 150?160?even 100mph. Nonetheless,just think,everyone here that owns an F40 the value of yours just went up and its the owners here that make sure that cars maintain their dignity so they can be admired and enjoyed.Cheers to you Gentlemen!-John

I don't own a Ferrari (yet) , but even for me it was sad to see them take such a magnificent car and basically rape it. The frame repair should be criminal. I would be afraid to take that car faster than about 50mph. When the mounting bolts don't line up, that's GOT to be a HUGE red flag.

They resprayed the car over a simply sanded previous paint job. The wheels look cheap. Those new headlamps look like something you pick up at Pep Boys. And one of the workers actually contemplated cutting off the rear wing because it made the car look like a "shopping cart".

I hope someone buys that car, gets the frame properly repaired, and returns it to its original condition... wheels and seats included.

 

IMHO, what they did to that car simply means that there is one less F40 in the US. In addition tot he engine mount being off by half an inch, they also hacked up the fire wall to fit the pedal box in the car. That part of the frame was still twisted too.

The clearly already had the deal worked out or there's no way they'd have showed them pounding on the firewall to clear the brake switch or cutting the motor mount to make it fit. All that money they dropped to supposedly straight the frame to within 1mm and they have to pull that BS? Not to mention all the pre-build discussion about getting it Ferrari certified then afterwards not a peep about it actually receiving Ferrari certification. Good entertainment but not even close to "reality."

 

The car is not bad looking overall, i really like the wheels BUT hammering the firewall? then engine mount that is way off cut it re-weld...whoa!

and lastly 900K LOL!!! yea it's a tv show still they are making a fool out of themself with this F40

That little porsche is very nice with a nice noise, the kinda thing they should do flip cars without ruining anything
