D/S window switch for pass window won't raise pass window

Gang,

New gremlin (started this AM): The window switch regulating the passenger side window in my '97 355 spider will take the window down but won't raise it back up. I now have to lean over to operate the switch in the pass side door to raise the passenger door window.

Like I said, just started doing it this AM. Any thoughts?

1st suspicion is the the wiring connector in the door jamb on driver's or passenger side. Prone to corrosion and/or wire breakage. Very common problem.

 

Could be the wiring, however, mine has done that several times and has been the switch. It just takes a second to pop out the switches, spray them with contact cleaner inside, dry, re-insert and try again. I have to do that about twice a year for the same problem, fixes it for me. You will need to pop out both driver and passenger switches and clean both as the circut passes through both switches. If the problem stays you can swap right and left switches and see if it goes with the switch. If not it is probably in the door wiring as previously indicated. Good luck.

Good idea. What is the "proper technique" for popping out the window switches? I just had Robbie @ StickNoMore redo my switchgear and I'd hate the thought of prying at them with a flat-head screwdriver and marring them up.

if you don't have any plastic interior removal tools.. try wrapping a flat head in electrical tape.

 

Do I try to pop out the switches from the door panels with the wrapped screwdriver?...or, do I need to remove the door cards and panels themselves to get at the switchgear from behind?

They just pop out of the door panel. A wrapped small flat screwdriver works fine. I was just very careful without the tape, no scratches.

 

Small cheese knife will do the trick too
