We have had our Iphones for all of almost 3 weeks and my son dove into the pool today. Usually not an issue in June but he had his Iphone 5 in his pocket! He swears he did not try to turn it on or mess with it after the lightning storm in his brain reminded him of what he forgot! He was also sharp enough to haul ass home and stick the phone in a bag of rice.

Obviously the Net is filled with do this and that's, but I was looking for some help from you guys. Anything I can do besides wait a week or so for some Iphone stirfry? We do have insurance on the phone but I'm sure it excludes water damage. I'm going to check with my credit card company also.

    Thanks for any help!

if it was powered off, leave a fan on it & then place in bag of rice. 3-4 days I'd think.
Usually 24hrs is more than enough for a keyboard clean

Put my casio pocket camera through the wash and the drier a couple
years ago - just did as above - took the battery out and sat it front of
a fan for several days and it was just fine.

    Worth a try...

Same thing here - dove into a pool with the iPhone in my pocket. Tried all the tricks, but did not recover.
Went to the Apple store and told them my sob story if losing all my kids photos. They said water damage is not covered but out of the blue, they replaced my phone for free.
    Sometimes Apple is awesome

Water damage is not covered under the warranty on the iPhone, but if you have AppleCare they will replace the phone if water damaged for $50. They only do this twice, I've had the displeasure of using it once already

We'll be waiting for the rice to do it's thing. I called Sprint and the phone is covered for water damage, but the deductible is $200! :( I'll be calling the credit card today and hoping for the best.........Thanks for the replies!

I did the same thing with my last iPhone, a 4S. It was in Florida, so I immediately drove to the nearest Apple store. I called their help line first, explained the situation honestly. They immediately set me up with an appointment at the store I was going to anyway. They told me they would replace the phone. Sweet! I can't be without my phone for days at a time, especially away from home where I have no backup device.

They were very sympathetic and helpful. I think my deductible was $99, but I got a new, NEW UNUSED, phone on-the-spot, and they even installed my screen protector for me.

I'll forever have Apple Care - it covered a swimming pool incident for me in the past, so I hope they keep that in their policy. I dunno if their policy has changed though.

    Good luck.

"Policy" wise I'm pretty sure you'd be out of luck. *However*, go in with the right attitude and they have lots of leeway to try and make you happy, regardless of warranty etc.

I had a battery "expand" on a 5 year old laptop a while back. Was fully prepared to buy a new one, but they gave me a new one no Q's asked. :)

    Cheers,
    Ian

I accidentally ran an iPhone 4 through the washing machine and an entire dry cycle. I _wondered_ what that clunking sound was coming from the dryer!

I opened the case and unplugged the battery. The next morning I put it on the charger and fired it up. There was a moisture blotch on the screen, but that cleared up after a few days and it was good as new.

Unfortunately the rice (with a bag of Damp-X) did not work. We filed the insurance claim yesterday. It's going to be $200 for the deductible and he gets a new phone. He pays $100 and I don't have to mow the lawn for the rest of the year! ;)
