Anyone have a lead on a new switch? Turn signals are out. Was working to tweak the Hazard toggle for a while but now I think I've killed it. Could use a lead on a replacement part. Thanks to all! J
If you still have any working contacts on the old switch, you can hijack them to operate relay(s). I did that to fix my turn signals. The switch is extremely expensive, and a replacement will most likely eventually end up broken too, as they are overly complicated and not very robust.
You note turn signals are out too. Are you sure it is not the relay? Mine died, went to local auto parts store and found a replacement ($8 I think)
I don't have access to any way of making a diagram at the moment, and I'm bad at explaining things, but the process was basically: 1. Study Paul's wiring diagrams until I understood how the signal circuit worked and what the switch was doing 2. Test the switch contacts with a continuity tester to find the problem. In my case the part of the switch that sends positive power to the flasher when "on/hazard" was working, but when switched "off" it was not allowing the ignition-switched power to pass through for the turn signals to work. One terminal on the switch was dead. 3. Draw up a way to use a SPDT relay to do the job of the broken part of the switch, and use the switch terminal that was working when "on/hazard" to activate the relay coil instead of doing its original job. Then I just wired it up with quick connectors and sat the relay next to the switch in the console, there's actually a nice place next to the ashtray where a relay fits snug on its side. Depending on which terminals work or don't for any given hazard switch, the exact fix could vary a lot, might need a DPDT relay or multiple relays, etc. In general though, you probably only want any relays switched on for the hazards, so they won't be constantly energized.
If as others have suggested you've tested and know foe sure the switch is dead.
