My neighbor in Park City had bought one earlier this year but is deciding to sell it as he says he doesn't really drive it. 58K miles, interior looks almost new, very clean. Exterior could use a polish but with a good detail would look practically new. But, of course, the mechanical aspects of the truck and costs of repairs are the concern.

He tells me he paid $4300 for it which makes me think it may be worth the risk. Would be a great SUV to keep here in Park City when we are here which is often.

Thoughts? Am I crazy? What issues should I look for that can cost big bucks to fix and that might make no sense to fix with the truck?

I think they had an SE and an HSE that year... worth confirming the options. In any event, I think $4300 is a good deal so long as the air suspension is in good working condition.

SE I believe. Air suspension is prone to failure? I assume very expensive fix?

Air suspension is rumored to fail frequently at great expense.

As the others have said... AIR SUSPENSION. Check to see if it was converted to coils.

I had a P38 Range Rover (1995-2002) and had to replace nearly EVERY air suspension component during my ownership. Out of warranty, it would cost you as much as you spend on the truck. ($4k)

Researching this I see at least one conversion kit available at about $1100 plus 4 hrs labor. Doesn't seem so bad if/when the suspension fails. Truck definetly has the air susp as its rides low, I assume no conversion kit creates that low of a ride.

How are the other mechanicals, tranny and engine in these?

My sister had one. Replaced the air suspension with coils. Wasn't a bad job. But because of that truck(99 discovery if I remember correctly), I'll never own one. I got a phone call every week to fix something. I know others have never had an issue.
At that price, seems like it wouldn't be a big risk.
