26 were shot in Chicago last month where gun ownership is essentially illegal. Try again. Do you have any gun crimes in the land of Oz? Did you reluctantly say, "yes." How could that be? They're illegal.
Chicago Weekend Shootings: Four Dead Among The 26 Shot Around The City In Weekend Gun Violence

We Americans are a strange lot. We don't really care if we are killed by a knife or a gun or a lead pipe. We feel that dead is dead. We also understand that murder is not the only crime that is ever committed. There's robbery, assault, burglary, theft...lots of nasty things that people do to each other.

I did a little reading about the crime rate in Australia. Since 1996, when you banned guns, your crime rate has gotten worse. Assaults are way up. Could it be that criminals and predators know that the helpless cannot fight back? Oh, and with all the fanfare, your murder by handgun rate has averaged 19 for the past 20 years. BFD. Thanks for proving to the world that banning guns has zero statistical impact on gun deaths. http://www.aic.gov.au/documents/0/B/6/%7B0B619F44-B18B-47B4-9B59-F87BA643CBAA%7Dfacts11.pdf

19... out of 22 million... so one in a million then :)

Those odds aren't too bad really!

US - about 8,500... out of 315 million... so about one in forty thousand... but you're OK with those odds so all's good :)

And I can see why you aren't concerned about other assault methods... they are really only noise :)

You're right the rise in assault numbers isn't acceptable, however I don't think that justifies a return to less rigorous gun controls. Every other stat is down when compared to a population increase of 25% (robbery and homicide even without an adjustment for population increase!!) and sexual assault is at its lowest since 2001!!!

And this is where you guys are "wery wery scarewy".....I'll accept the increase in more assaults if it means less rapes, robberies, kidknappings and dead people because we have banned guns. We aussies are a strange lot

I felt that statement was so significant. In all my years of guns, I think that's the heart of it all.

I am just wondering about the lack of logic that removing guns from law abiding citizens will make criminals less violent.

What is so exciting about the idea of making law abiding citizens more vulnerable to criminals?

"When seconds count, the police are just minutes away".

This constant drum of anti gun nuts that are afraid of their own shadow that erroneously believe that law abiding citizens will be safer WITHOUT a gun to protect themselves.

If it wasn't so sad it would be funny.

By the way, yesterday a woman was killed by three low life's on Hollywood Boulevard for not forking over a Dollar.

She did not possess a gun.

    She was stabbed to death.

Many believe that a gun could have saved her life.

I guess that the anti gun crowd is proud.

I think they should go and **** themselves.

Mods, Can we get this thread shut down? there is obviously no logic or respect involved - I'm sick to death of lunatics invading what is supposed to be a local topic. It's not P&R - if I want this cra* I'll go there.

I'm with you Dave, I had P&R deleted from my menu years ago due to the "logic" shown by that crowd

it's not a matter of who is the best shot but the mentality of the possessor of the gun which seems to be the main problem in the US, ..... mentally unbalanced people having such easy access and the president has been shot down in flames but the gun nuts for trying to address this problem

Please check your stats on violent crime in AU.

You are not seriously alleging that there are no robberies in Australia?

Because that would be silly now, wouldn't it???

    :)
