Maybe... but I seem to remember his interest in the 1984 Indy Fieros.

The guy gets credit for this. It's well done even if you don't like the way it looks. It's original and not trying to pretend it's anything else. It looks like he did a pretty good job. It may be a one off, but heck, so was the Zonda at first...

He loses style points for taking a picture of it next to a derelict Cherokee though.

Horrific is a good word, IMO these cars have so little style, it's all about show and it makes the owners look like total tools.

This wasn't on ebay but I live in NE OH and was cruising car dealership lots on Sunday (they are almost always closed on Sunday) and found a little SLK 300 Mercedes with a MANUAL transmission. I didn't even know MB could spell manual transmission for a US bound car much less build one.

If I may, this thread would be better to browse if you would post a pic of the car. Since it really only has a post life of one week. Because when you go back to look, the auction is gone. I'm just saying.

BMW : 7-Series Base Sedan 4-Door in BMW | eBay Motors

2001 750iL Protection. This is the light armor factory made BMW. As you can see in the picture, it has the moonroof delete for safety. The rear windows are inoperable for added safety as well and the rear armrest is in the fixed-down position to provide space to reinforce the safety cell (ski-bag feature would be an easy way to penetrate the cabin).

I think these were $125k+ new (the 740iL Protection was $100k). Each about $25k more than the non-armored versions. Always wanted one even though the windows need replacing by now.

The ad says the car is in the Baltimore area, which I guess makes sense for anyone that has been there (aka Bodymore, Murderland). Though the pics look to be in California as well as the license plate.

That's pretty cool actually... the auction ended at $9,350 without the reserve met, so what would you expect it to go for?

Also, as you say the windows would need replacing, I take it they won't have their bullet-resistant properties now, so how expensive a proposition is that?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I've only seen a few 750iL Protections up for sale in the US. Majority of those that advertise "Protection" are really just regular 750iLs with "security glass" that is double paned and break resistant (not bulletproof). Those are about $1,000 a pane. The bullet proof one for the 750iL I've read are $5,000 a piece. Both of them have delamination issues after time and need replacing and aren't as strong as they were on Day 1.

The "real" bulletproof glass, like level B6 in Europe, is in the $10s of thousands. That stuff can withstand enough. The Protection package is more like keeping 44 caliber stuff out for a few shots to give you time to escape. The really expensive stuff can keep assault rifles and explosives away.

The only two real 750iLPs I saw for sale were asking $22-$35k with the latter being far fewer miles and in better shape. The $22k one looked rough.

I'd love to own one for the novelty factor. I'd prefer a BMW L7 above those anyway...not found in the US for the E38 series. :( Check out that wheelbase! http://www.motorsbros.com/images/BMW-L7-11.jpg

I'd probably first want to try to get into a 2001-2003 E39 as it'd probably be more exciting to drive, but the E38 was an extremely cool car and the armoured versions just somehow seem right for a big executive car - it's a nice touch. :D

At $5k per window, it seems like you'd have to think of maintenance in terms of exotics. :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

On Ebay item 251325461153 in the UK.
This seems a slightly odd machine, as I am 99% sure that it never appeared in RHD. Only 9 were ever sold in the UK anyway, so I am guessing at an 8.32 engine swap into a turbo chassis. It does appear to have most of the lovely Poltrona Frau leather and wood interior though, in addition to the pop up rear wing ( taped shut! )
Out with the shoehorn and get that engine into a lancia Beta montecarlo someone!

There is a VERY good reason why there is only one in the entire US!

I like the idea of a single-seater or two-seater (in-line) car for the road. :)

Aesthetics are not the prettiest, but it's a neat design.

    All the best,
    Andrew.
