09 scud I want to change/ install new battery. What's the protocol/steps? Do i need to turn battery switch off prior? Once new battery is in anything else needs to be done to regain original settings? Thanks in advance
obtain radio code unlock car drop windows open hood kill the battery with cut-off switch in the trunk change battery unlock battery cut-off switch click remote three times key on ignition for 30 seconds with accessories on enter radio code
I would highly recommend removing the negative cable first. That way if you accidentally touch something metal with your wrench while removing the positive cable nothing bad can happen. Touching ground while removing the negative cable has no consequences. I remember removing a battery terminal on my 1969 Triumph Herald. The nut on the positive clamp came loose a little too easy and the wrench (spanner in that case) hit the body. Let me tell you, that spanner got really hot in a hurry. Reverse order for install -- positive first. Also depending on what make of battery you get you need to ensure that the drain/vent tube needs to be reinstalled. Alan
I was told that an Interstate battery does not fit in the scud battery compartment and that only the Optima fits. I was quoted $350 for an Optima battery by the dealership. What is the price of your Optima?
If you use a 9v battery you have to connect it before cutting the power and I'm not sure it would be happy being fed 12v. I wouldn't take the risk as there's only one code -- for the radio and it's easy to do. Alan
Why not with the new battery? Parallel the new battery with the old battery using wire with alligator clips, disconnect old battery, then connect new battery, then disconnect paralleling wires. This way the car never loses power. Used this method on my BMW and it works just fine. Cheers, Andy
