after a very spirited drive (well it's always after a spirited drive right....who keeps advising "drive it like ya stole it""??!?!?!?!?)

anyway, i opened the engine lid after reaching home to cool the engine bay down and found this greese sprayed on the left hand side of the engine area...looks like it has come out from the gearbox area as shown in Photo No.2 below.(there is a wire running out from it).. it's not oil for sure (engine or gearbox) ..... is this the dreaded kluber grease? if it is so, why has it come out all of a sudden...it has spurted out like under very high pressure......

just for some background info, i do know that i have repack my flywheel...i have been hearing the noise of "pebbles crackling in a can" upon shutting off my engine and also when i go over bumps.... could this be linked to the above?

thanks a lot to all in the brotherhood in advance....cheers......

My vote is also a cv boot. I think the boot is visible
    in one of your pics.

thanks a lot guys..... upon further inspection, it was a torn cv boot....a very tiny tear actually.......
the kluber grease repacking has been at the back of my head and i somehow panicked it was that!!! i don't think it has even a chance of getting out there in the photos isn't it!! stupid me in the sudden mode of panic!!.....haha

anyway, in the interchangeable thread, the CV Boot compatible with the 348 is listed as a Porsche part..... besides this, is there any other known compatible boot?

thanks to everyone who identified the right stuff above.....just shows, experience is king
    ;-)

Yes, I used a Lexus LS400 boot because a previous thread said that the "late" 348 SS cars like mine had a different boot than the 348 or 355 boots. I don't know if that is true but the Lexus Boot fit my car.

I just replaced all rear CV boots on my 94 348. I got them from Rutlands, $96.00 delivered including grease. They were out of clamps so I got those from Ricambi. I did both axles because i figured if one boot had failed the others were suspect as well. Once I got them off cracks approx. halfway thru were visible.

Other posts indicated the Porsche boots were thicker and longer bolts were needed. Not sure if this is correct in all cases.

    Regards,

    Brewman

I think the bolt issue may be for 355's. On the 348 the boot has no influence on the bolt installation. I got the clamps and pliers at the local auto parts store. Thankfully they didn't ask me what kind of car it was for, or I'm sure they would have had a cow.
