    I believe its machine crimped..in others words you may break it if you try to force it apart. Its designed to take the weight of the car you know.

    Don't know the original colour so I guess you will have to mask it up and lower your standards a little.

    There must be versions of same jack, shipped with other cars, that can be sacrificed.
    Last time I checked Alfa, prices are up there. Maybe Lancia or Lada or something

    Alfa jacks share some parts but it is a ton of fabrication work to convert an Alfa Jack into a Dino one. That said with the prices the way they have been going it may be worth the effort.

    As for painting the jack, originally they were painted assembled so doing so would result in the most true to original result.

    Tony is correct that the gears are crimped in place requiring some sort of bending or machine work to take them apart. I took one look at my jack and decided to paint it assembled. Taking it apart is asking for all kinds of heartache.

    I was suggesting sacrificing the other jack, to see how it was assembled, not converting it.
    although I am sure the converted jack would become the defacto standard in a couple of years :)
