I am having a strange issue with my 550. The windshield seems to get a buildup of soot on the inside of it every few days, so bad that I have to clean it before driving it. This has been happening for the past few months and happens regardless of temperature, driving, parked in garage etc..... Has anyone else had an issue like this?

What have you been putting on the leather?

I have not put anything on the leather as of yet. The car was fully detailed when I purchased it a few months ago and have not needed as of yet........

Try using a top quality leather cleaner on the dash. And do not put any kind of leather protector on the leather for a few days, and see if the issue goes away. Depending what was put on by the detail shop, and how much it has soaked into the leather, you might have to repeat the cleaning process a couple of times.

soot? More like whitish in nature, and near the exhaust vents on the dash? If so, might want to check the coolant.

That's exactly where it's coming from. What should I check, level or quality of it? The car doesn't run hot (even this past week in NJ with temps in the 90's). What issue are you aware of?

while Ferraridriver has the right first approach, don't be alarmed if it's the dreaded heater core :(

that IIRC can only be repaired by taking out the dash, but I know not on the 550. Heater cores can get clogged and/or worn as coolant was not refreshed regularly.

ping Taz or Rifledriver on this as they are sharper and of the latter I know he's seen it first hand: ask me how I know :|

Thanks for the info guys, I really appreciate it. I am going to try the evaporation tube first and see if that helps. I just bought the car and it was a florida car with only 10k driven in 12+ years, so i'm hoping its that tube and not the heater core.
