    I can certainly understand that.

But you have to stay fair with your comments: Given your critical eye, where would that leave "Grand Prix" and "Le Mans"?

Grand Prix has a truly dopey fake soap opera story and Le Mans wish it would have any kind of story.

I always agree with what you have to say. And you think things out a little bit better than I do:)

I hope for F1 sake that it can get American's to realize what is the primo Motorsport is instead of redneck bumper cars. I'm looking out my apartment window in mannhattan and can see the Site of the NJ F1 site and hope we can have this race for many years to come. Maybe this movie can help.

The average wide release movie spends over thirty million bucks on publicity.
    It's got to go somewhere.

Won't make it's money back . I wish it the best for my own personal benefit (F1 picking up steam in the US)

But lets be honest all 10 of us watching F1 on Nbcsn ( which is a premium channel that I pay an extra $30 a month for) if all of us go to the movie they bring in $200 dollars.

But show me a Swiss who doesn't love Rega. He was the best. After Seppi. :)

Clay was killed in a part of Emilia that I used to frequent as a kid in the summers. Always liked him. Gave frank Williams his first win.

If I told my GF we were going to see a car racing movie of something that happened in the 70's, she's say I was crazy.

That's the problem. Howard has to draw in more than face fans.

To do that, he must upset race fans.

The preview I saw looked more like a soap opera than a movie about car racing. Then again, so was Gran Prix.

DRIVEN was the biggest POS movie I've ever seen. It single handidly ruined CART. Comparing any movie to that is harsh. Ron Howard typically makes very good movies. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Based on the Rush trailer I'd say they blame it on a mechanical failure.

Rush has been pushed back a week, to September 27th.

I'm not sure why, as a casual glance at the schedule makes it look like the move puts the film into tougher competition for an audience...

    Tony George ruined Cart.

Driven is probably one of the worst movies of all time.

I don't think there's a lot of real history going to be said here. It's a story. It's not a documentary.

Leaving Enzo out of it really hurts the credibility IMO. I'm going in with low expectations. Ok, it's fun to recreate some interesting periodic race cars and surely the characters involved were interesting and brave. But, it's not a place where you're going to find a lot of facts of what went down like Apollo 13.

My wife wanted to watch "Le Mans" a couple of weeks ago. Halfway through the movie she said: this movie is just about car racing.

I don't think Enzo was such a big part anyway: yes he was pissed that Niki gave up and ultimately fired him but that was past the season.

My expectations are not too high as well though. Then again what is the competition? I know people drool over Grand Prix and Le Mans but in reality they are just car porn. They don't have real or interesting stories. So if Rush only looks good, it's already in the Panteon of racing flicks

By which she said nicer things than the critics...

I'm currently rewatching Vaillant and must admit that my memory of it was flattering to it. The movie is eye candy but the story stupid. Like most racing movies

Next up is Driven, lets see whether my perception changed there too :)

Right... Niki almost dies, he has no one to complete the season, and Il Commendatore wasn't involved much.

    Sure.

BTW: I find Le Mans a bit ponderous and boring at times. The final race scene and the slo- mo crash are epic. I don't think anyone in cinema has explained a crash the way that movie has.

Some of the other stuff though....

Ok, Enzo certainly exerted pressure on Lauda but I believe the biggest pressure came from within. He wanted to survive, get fit again and into the cockpit to race Hunt again.

Yes, Enzo's role would have been a good addition but I don't think it is a big loss not to have him there. Lauda is such a strong character, he needed motivation from nobody. To this day.

We might have a different view of Enzo. I thought he stood more in the way of his drivers than anything. A great entrepreneur with a great sense for business but not a good team principal (which wasn't his role to begin with).

Yeah, the flexing of fibreglass is a sight to behold. ;)

Alright, I thought we'd settled this months ago on a different thread. Those cars did have fiberglass bodies. What do you think a 917 or 512S body was made of; sheet metal?
