Can someone tell me what the A6G stands for?
Walter, do you think it's important to mention who "Alfieri" was, and why it was named after him? ~Trev
Just wondering, what is the original authority that "A" stands for Alfieri, which is casually repeated everywhere ? By 1947 when the car was introduced, that particular Maserati brother had been dead for fifteen years and those remaining were nearing the end of their reportedly desultory ten-year contract with the Orsis. It seems equally logical to me that the commercially-minded Orsi family might have named the company's first stradale vehicle alphabetically. The "G" is an understandable modifier as the A6 1500 and (I believe) single-cam 2 liter cars all had aluminum blocks. But do the twin-cam A6s all have iron blocks ? Thanks !
