    A = Alfieri

    Walter, do you think it's important to mention who "Alfieri" was, and why it was named after him?

    Of course some might get confused with Alfieri Maserati and Giulio Alfieri

    Just wondering, what is the original authority that "A" stands for Alfieri, which is casually repeated everywhere ? By 1947 when the car was introduced, that particular Maserati brother had been dead for fifteen years and those remaining were nearing the end of their reportedly desultory ten-year contract with the Orsis. It seems equally logical to me that the commercially-minded Orsi family might have named the company's first stradale vehicle alphabetically.

    The "G" is an understandable modifier as the A6 1500 and (I believe) single-cam 2 liter cars all had aluminum blocks. But do the twin-cam A6s all have iron blocks ?

    Thanks !
