Massive difference between tarting up a wheel for some curb rash and stripping and restoring a wheel properly. It's fiddly and labour intensive to strip the old paint off, most places don't do it properly. Compromised base equals compromised finish that likely won't stand the test of time either. If the wheels have high magnesium content a special process is required or you will have your pretty paint cracking and bubbling from underneath in short order. Have a look at the wheels on a lot of those expensive vintage V12's at the next FCA concour.
I've seen how they do these wheel refurbs at the dealers first hand. A light rub back over the damaged area and a quick squirt of a vaguely matching colour from an airbrush, job done. As with all things in life you get what you pay for. I would consider that OK on a race car; but that's about it.

I restored the wheels on my 308 GTB in the early 1990's. Seem to recall it was about $400 a wheel way back then. Twenty years later and they still look magnificent.

Did mine two years ago. 3 look good...one looks crap!!

Of course, I did it the cheap way, but didn't mean to. Lack of knowledge at the time.

It happens. Before the internet it wasn't as easy to get information as it is now. And as we all know, most people in the car game are dodgy, so it's all to easy to get ripped, careful or not.
Hopefully JM will get them sorted with flash new stickers and they will be good until he is pushing up Daisy's ;)

I was talking about my 308.

The black challenge wheels which I painted 10 years ago with your stickers are still fine.

I'm scratching my head working out where to mount my camera on the March (can't use the roll bar as on the Lola) and after watching this, using a front wing end plate looks like the go.

The best way to get a sense of the speed of an open wheel car.

(not saying that I'd get within cooee of the lap Button does here!)

Hmmmm, I set the oil level in Moretti's car, I checked it three times, just to make sure, because it was being picked up by a dumb, and I had to get it right.

So I hear today, about the oil level saga. All he had to do was call the previous owner, or me!

    DUMBER!

well you lot, I was at the concourse up here and one of the 355 owners gave me some false advice and I erred on the side of caution by putting in a litre

Then took out the litre when I realised it was over the full mark .... all is well now, thanks for the concern and well wishes on my lowering IQ status
