    Yes, I saw the registry, it's listed, but there is no other info other than the dealer's web site of photos. I can only assume that it was not in the registry until it was recently listed for sale. They don't even have it's birth date.

    After seeing the Mexico Ivan sold to Martin Loge come back to life, I think pretty much anything can be restored, given enough time, money and skill.

    I don't think I'd want to do it all myself, though!

    Well, lets see, purchase price + $225,000 + massive wear and tear on your nervous system and you have a pretty nice car provided it is a matching number car.
    Of course your milage may vary and in all probability will.
    No photo of a transmission, just some type of shifter?

    The funny thing is I sold that Mexico (the green monster) to Jacques as a parts car. Martin then bought it from Jacques with the wild idea to restore it.
    This Mexico was staring down the throat of a crusher and instead ended up at the winner's stand at Concurso Italiano. Martin proved the impossible is sometimes possible.

    The seller told me a ZF transmission is part of the sale.

    The seller stated that the engine numbers DO NOT match, or there is no VIN/ID number on the engine block. He stated that 40% of all Maserati's do not have an VIN on the block. ( LOL :) ).

    And the car is yours for north of $50,000 USD.

    Frank, does it add up???

    I remember seeing the green Monster (Mexico) when it was running
    and located in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area.. The owner at the time
    had a very interesting filter assembly on the car!!! I also remember
    there was no back seat, although the owner may have had it at his
    house, can't really remember.. I felt very sorry for the car, thinking
    it deserved better. Almost made me forget my dream of owning a Mexico..

    No, if it bids to $25,000 I will be very suppressed. Just too much work and too many missing parts to make it a fun project.
    On the other hand my early roll up window car AM101.916 is a running, stopping and smooth shifting car which will make it much more cost effective and a lot less expensive in the long run.

    Beverly Hills Car Club? I'll bet they run their operation out of a PO Box in the 'Hills. Looks more like the west coast office of Gullwing by the look of the cars they offer....

    This one at least looks restorable, as opposed to the Ghibli they had on offer last year.

    West coast office of Gullwing sums it up pretty well. I've even seen them exchanging cars. The 3500 GT at Gullwing with the hideous wheels was once at BHCC, for example. Sure is a great name though!

    While I can appreciate that the weight savings are substantial, IIRC the QP3 4.9L puts out 280HP stock, nowhere near 400! Even the tuned Royal version was "only" 300HP...

    Gee. Other than the wheels I would have thought it was legit. Right down to the automatic transmission. :rolleyes:

    I've seen Wil's car a few times late during it's construction and finally finished last autumn. I think it's a very nice car. He did a great job of it. It also took him in the neighborhood of ten years to do it.

    I'd guess that the car Julian found has about eleven years to go. :rolleyes:

    Thanks for the mention, Bob. This thread prompted me and Wil to have a discussion. His car is now for sale on ebay. He is not desperate to sell, just has another project in mind. We still have his supercharged 308GTB to play with while building something new, definitely a 1-2 year project this time, not 8-10!

    Hi Walter,

    It is true the outside of the car or the chassis were never in Modena. The engine, front & rear suspension, steering, rear sub-frame, rear brakes, differential, drive-shaft, door latches, gas pedal and parking brake system are all from the same 1980 Maserati QP. The front brake calipers came through Sant'Agata.

    We're not claiming the car is a production Maserati. We just recycled some nice parts from a very rusted and neglected series III Quattroporte which was bound for the scrap heap (it had about a liter of water in the glove box) and we registered the new car as a customized Maserati. It's basically a re-bodied Maserati.
