Alex, be mature please. For what McLaren, Ferrari and Porsche make these cars, Sunday afternoon driving with the wife? It is obvious that the one that makes the most fastest time around Nurburgring will be crowned as the new king of the hyper car. One thing that makes me worry is that ************ alot at the Geneva show but since then, nothing! It makes me believe they took a big bite of the cake and now they can not swallow it. I know I have red tint glasses but I think this time our beloved Ferrari has became too confident and challenger McLaren will K.O. everybody in this segment. They make a road legal race car while Ferrari make eye candy with alot of make up and screaming voice. Please tell me this is not so with facts.
Giacomo, Ferrari have sold all the 499 laF cars, I read McLaren has some problems to receive orders for the all 375 car they have in mind to produce. The ring time is one marketing strategy for who wants to sell a car. Do you think Ferrari is not able to develope a race car for the road ? to make an FXX road legal and sell it to a few customers ? If they have an economical carry back may be, surely not to declare they have the fastest car on tyhe ring. One more thing. When developping suspension system, we use the ring to verify setup in each tricky condition that ring offers in 20Km of tracks. We develope a safe setup, not the fastest because cars have to be usable by customers. Customers are 99,99% normal drivers, not pilot. Cheers Luque
This right sums it up, the fastest set up may not be the most user friendly set up. These are road cars so they need to work primarily on the road.
Luque, this is exactly my point. Ferrari take it too easy with LaFerrari development because they feel safe they will make alot of money from zero effort to sell all 499 while McLaren who are relatively still unknown in automotive road car segment are pushing much more hard to create a great hyper car. Yes, I agree that a superior Nurburgring time is only one marketing strategy to sell a car but in this segment it is perhaps the most important because if LaFerrari cannot set a faster time than P1, then what can it do better than P1? More comfortable? No, I sit in both and LaFerrari is for me too claustrophobic. Suspension? P1 is advanced development of 12C and 12C can go like a Rolls Royce and like a GT3 race car so no compromise. Sound? Ok yes LaFerrari sound like my girlfreind when we make the love. But P1 sound like it want to eat my girlfreind alive. You say (Ferrari say?) you develop a SAFE setup, not the fastest because you (you work for Ferrari?) want LaFerrari to be usable by normal customer. Luque, do not make me mad! What normal customer buy LaFerrari? If I want a safe setup car I will buy Volvo. You mean Ferrari do not want to make the fastest car around Nurburgring? You are drinking to much wine. Purtroppo I don't think Ferrari has same capability as MacLaren to make a race car for the road...compare F1 with F40. FXX was never road legal with out expensive conversion. I very much want LaFerrari to be on top of P1 but I see no fact that it will be like this so I worry. Clients will have LaFerrari this year?
P 4/5 C did a 6:51 on the Ring (NS) and is now on the road with basically the same set up. It worked on the Ring and it works on the road.
Erik-- You're a McLaren F1 fanatic! Surely you of all people don't care about price, especially when the workmanship justifies that price. Horacio builds the best cars in the world right now. He is more obsessed with quality than Murray ever was, and he's got panache to boot. His work is unparalleled this side of what Jim does with his people. Despite that, I'd be willing to bet that he could charge P4/5 money if he opened a program to cater to that client market.
Lol ... You wrote nonsense. Carmaker sells car for profit. For little carmakers this is a must otherwise they disappears quickly. To design an produce the fastest car ever Bugatti Veyron and to waste money of the company can be accepted by Volkswagen not for a factory like Pagani. Mclaren F1 ? hat off to the Murray's genious but it was a waste of money for Mclaren only 69 street cars produced. F40 ? Economic success, over 1300 cars produced and FASTER than a F1 on track. Update you information. Anyway Giacomo you are really a bit confused. One example. The suspension (PACC) of the MP4-12C are from Tenneco that owns the patent from 2001 and they are well Known from years. Tenneco proposed the system to everycarmakers From Audi to Porsche, from Ferrari to Lamborghini. No one of them decided to bring the system on their models. This is not a state of the art tehcnology. Due parole in Italiano. Io non bevo vino, lavoro nel campo dell'automotive da vent'anni e so di che cosa parlo. Tu ? Benvenuto in Ferrari chat ma cerca di usare un approccio più formale. Saluti Luque
So because there is not a number of LaFerrari early models out making the rounds and doing appearances at various event....the feeling is that the car is incapable of performing?! So suddenly in the wake of trying to 'keep up' with McLaren, Ferrari has lost the ability to produce a high performance road car?! Especially one with comparable capability to the latest efforts from rival McLaren?! And there is actually an argument ("discussion") going back and forth over this? It would seem tinted glasses come in both Ferrari Red and McLaren Orange!
+1. I dont know why people are freaking out because they dont see as many appearances of the Ferrari as you do of the other cars. Ferrari never did things this way. And while it is kinda cool to see these cars in early prototype guise show up at Goodwood or Le Mans, I also like the fact that so far we have seen very little of the Ferrari and it is still a big surprise. The 918 already feels dated to me since we have seen the shape for 2 years+.
Ferraris will be ferraris and Mclaren will be Mclaren... There will always be customers for Ferrari because its just been there too long and have the client base to support the sale of the La Ferrari... The Mclaren p1 has to prove itself as a viable and potent sportscar beyond what La Ferrari can do... And if it does, then at that point expect Mclaren's customer base to grow even faster, which it is doing now with its mp4-12c program... Because the fact remains that they are a company that has way more potential for growth given their age and size relative to ferrari... Ferrari on the other hand will need to rethink its strategy to retain its customer base... Business is war and there are always going to be ones that are on the offensive and others that are on the defensive...
"Dismiss Ferrari at your own peril." F1 Bosses throughout the racing history. Get a grip people. We are talking about Ferrari. 31 F1 Titles and all...
This. Who the hell gets excited about a car 3 years later? Over 3 years! Huge fail on Porsche's part. This was an excellent way to destroy any excitement potential buyers had.
Fine - two then. The Huayra is a bit gaudy on the inside and an ugly fish on the outside. I'll give you that the quality and attention to detail are stellar - I took a trip through the factory and saw it all first hand. That said, I'm not eager to get in line as a buyer - maybe when the car evolves. I also think it will be easily out-performed by every other hypercar, especially if they are all given the benefit of a set of cut-slick tires. >8^) ER
Yeah, I'm with you on this one. Inside has always been on the excessive side, and the new steampunk version is no exception, however that was OK because the Zonda looked amazing. The Huayra on the other hand is pretty bad looking. Attention to detail, craftsmanship, and even performance can't save an ugly design. The Huayra will no doubt be outclassed in terms of performance and it's really not that good looking compared to the other offerings.
I really dont like the Huarya's front. The rear is not bad looking. I always hated Pagani's interior, they are too baroque looking.
Not that it's going to matter to any of you guys, but I was told a couple of months ago by someone in intimate contact with a top engineer on the LaF project that there is a "big problem with the car".
