The R stands for revised. 0854's gear box for example is orininal 603 P4 not revised and has no R stamp. All components in the post you cite should read:

    603C/350 Can Am

Can anyone else see the faint numbers 3 and 7 a bit further up from the 0858 stamp that look to have been covered over in the pic below that Marcel posted earlier?

    So we have:

    An engine tipo 247
    a gearbox 603 R
a chassis of the Can Am type.
an original body Can Am, mated to its' original chassis, engine, box etc.

What exactly is P4 about this?

    Best,

    Jack.

yes, engine 603 typo 247: yes gearbox 603 R; No, it's original chassis is 0858 a P4 and was the sn of record from creation at S.F. until another s/n discovered during R M's 2009 auction and existed only on documents at S.F. per Classiche. T.he duration of 0858 has been verified by two different sources now in preyious posts in this thread. The original # 603 was originally used on some early CanAm engines and gear boxes but never on the chassis plate of 0858. It's all there. If you don't believe this show me otherwise. tongascrew

So you are judge and jury. E.F. died I believe in 1988 long before there was any talk of "cutting up" 0858. Piper and Talacrest are restoring Ferrari chassis 0858 not cutting it up. Why don't you contact each for their opinion. Another court might consider your remarks slanderous. All it really shows is ignorance. tongascrew

Of course 0858's chassis was modified by Ferrari when Ferrari turned Ferrari P4 0858 into Ferrari 350 Can Am 0858 in 1968.

    That is fact.

Of course Piper cut 0858's original Ferrari 350 Can Am chassis to fit the period incorrectly made "P4" Replica "P4" body he made and fitted to Original Ferrari 350 Can Am 0858 in 2013.

    That is also fact.

No photos that I have seen are detailed enough to show the difference in construction. What is available from Talacrest does indicate work similar to other P4 resto jobs. Until the real experts get to examine the final product will we know more. tongascrew

I'm not the one assuming what Enzo gave his blessing to. You are.

This isn't a restoration at all. There would have to be a P4 under there for it to be. There doesn't appear to much of anything other than a factory Can Am.

I will ignore the petty insult and slander allegation.

The first picture in post 1691 appears to show the 0858 stamp on a chassis tube. Yes or no? Original or not? tongascew

I was attempting some subtle sarcasm at tongascrews apparent assertion that the chassis is still much the same and little modification was made when the car was converted to a Can Am.

I am not fan of soap opera's but this thread could possibly make a good one!

    Just to clarify:
My photo #1 in post #1691 shows the genuine, correct, authentic, original and unaltered chassis number on the frame of 0858.
My photo #2 in post #1691 shows the genuine, correct, authentic, original and unaltered engine number on the block of 0858.
