There was some Aluminum used in some parts but my point was more about the skin visible of the underlying car (when the Porsche crumbles).
Here's my issue. This movie is not about what happened. It's a story of Niki's courage and Hunt's lifestyle during this rather extraordinary period. It's not a documentary and therefore you have to look at it not as a historical document but as an interesting story that will entertain and should be told for that purpose. Niki's courage to get back in the car is something I don't know if many drivers today could do. Probably -- shouldn't do! But it's a story to entertain. It's not necessarily what really happened.
I'm a bit lost of what exactly your issue is. We know what happened, there is no great mystery here. It's a biopic, many movies are like that, what's wrong with that? I much prefer this to a dry docu like Senna or Siffert and definitely to a fictional story like Grand Prix or Le Mans. As the Italians say: Si non e vero, e bon trovato.
Well, lets get the whole thing right: Lauda quit Ferrari after Watkins Glen 1977. did not do Canada or Japan. Ferrari did not fire anyone. after the accident in Germany - Ferrari sought Emmerson Fittipaldi to fill Lauda's seat. He thought Lauda was finished - lucky to be alive. in 76 - Montezemolo had left, Audetto was team manger and in the beginning - Ferrari won everything so the team thougth it was the cars that were so superior anyone could win in a Ferrari. Secret was Lauda and testing. Audetto convinced the Old man to put Flammini in the car for Holland, when they could not agree - he pulled the team. by that time it was just Regga making the race - he was out anyway for 77, becuase he pissed off the old man by selling jeans and shirts with the prancing horse on them - with out permission... Ferrari was very touchy about that stuff... Flammini was out - Reutteman in for Monza. Ferrari offers Lauda the position of "team Manager" not sure if he is fit or not- wants to keep him out of other teams. That is what caused the break between Lauda and Ferrari. In the end they were two very dominant people who when the going got tought - they got going ... in different directions. In the end Lauda admits it was a mistake to leave but he was hurt and emotional. Enzo admitted he should have given him some room... but that was in 85 when Lauda was retiring again.

Just adding to the F1 realism! Will the movie be done in time? Will the stands (seats) be full? (Have they paid Bernie yet?)
Just watched the 2 minutes + trailer again and it looks fantastic and authentic. Downside is that I feel I've already seen the whole movie/story.
Staying at the Four Seasons here in Hong Kong. Chris Hemsworth and his family are staying here while he shoots a new movie (any ideas....?). Very nice man by all accounts....seems to spend most time with his wife and new baby. Good luck to him. Looking forward to seeing Rush.
Michael Mann's Cyber, in which American and Chinese military authorities go after those responsible for a 'high level computer hacking'...
Starring new actor; edward snowden! As I've said many times the usgp in 76 was my first race - I sent a photo my dad took of hunt crossing the finish line with both hands in the air - to James hunt's son; who just enveiled some cool merchandise. He loved the photo and is using on it on their family's site.... Kevin
LOL. I'm not sure I consider either of these three to be great film directors . . . certainly not Boyle. I also had a great deal of reservation at first . . . a friend joked that he was afraid Howard would cast Tom Hanks as Niki Lauda LOL. We wondered whether his brother might show up as Teddy Mayer! All cruel commentary aside, I was blown away by the first International trailer, and the first US trailer was not bad at all. However, for a movie which began life being about Niki, I can tell that the marketing people at the studio got a hold of this thing and it has since turned it into being a movie about Hunt, the sexier of the two. Fair enough, the business is tough and I can't expect a mainstream movie to squarely hit all the right buttons . . . but I do have a sense that I will enjoy it immensely. Niki Lauda remains to this day one of the true greats, and Hunt was the kind of character the sport needs.
My issue is that they cut out a lot of the drama of not having Enzo involved. Part the story is him, and it's completely ignored here. Even Grand Prix had Sr. Manetti who was an Enzo stand in. Everyone knew who Manetti was. Apparently, in Rush, they don't know a guy named "Enzo".
Good point. I agree it is a part of the drama that is now missing. As I said before: after having seen the trailer I have the bad feeling that I already know the film
It looks to be good. This movie has led me to look further into the GP season of 76 and it seems like it was an awesome year of racing. There are a lot of cool videos on youtube from that season.
If the trailer encouraged you to learn more then that's a success. My feeling is you will get more out of the videos and other historical images than you will from the film. No losers
Oh cool, that's at the museum in Germany, right? That's precisely how I look at Grand Prix: Terrible as a movie but great footage, some of it is even real. Inspired me to collect as much original racing footage of the sixties as I could.
Aha! We were both at Watkins Glen in '76. Here are some of my photos. You ought to recognize the people. I should point out that in the sixth photo, the young man in the black JPS jacket is.....Michael Andretti, walking next to his dad (almost hidden) and the late Gunnar Nilsson: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow - you must have been right next to us! Didnt realize that was Michael Andretti - very cool. I have more under the old photo thread.... KEVIN
