    Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton and pop-star girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger have split up after five years together.

    X Factor judge Scherzinger did not appear in any of the photographs at Silverstone, as Hamilton finished fourth in Sunday's British Grand Prix, with Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg taking first place.

    Scherzinger, 35, and Hamilton, 28, who went public with their relationship back in 2007, are believed to have ended their relationship as their busy work schedules meant they were unable to see each other enough.

    A source said: 'Nicole is just so heartbroken and completely devastated.'
    A spokesperson for Nicole confirmed the split to Mail Online.

    Hamilton, who finished qualifying on pole, was taken out of the running for victory on home soil after his rear tyre blew. The 2008 world champion was one of five drivers to have suffered blown tyres, and was furious after seeing his chances diminish.

    ‘Safety is the biggest issue,' a raging Hamilton said after the race. 'It’s just unacceptable. If they don’t react, that says everything.’

    The news of the split comes just weeks after Hamilton hinted that he was planning to propose to the former ***** Cat Dolls singer.

    He said earlier this year: 'We’ve been together for five years, which is quite a milestone really. But hopefully in the near future. Maybe before we get to six years.'

    Scherzinger is regularly spotted cheering Hamilton on at Grands Prix, following the Mercedes roadshow around the world, but was nowhere to be seen at Silverstone on Sunday afternoon.
    She said: 'I only go to a Grand Prix to support Lewis. I am in awe of Formula One because there is so much money, technology and talent, but as for the racing, it really is like trying to understand rocket science when I’m there, trackside.

    ‘For me there’s only ever one winner and a lot of people would agree with me on that – Lewis is the best.'

    The last time the couple were pictured together was at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on June 10th.

    Since then, the pop star has gone solo at various events including Wimbledon last week and the Summer Music Festival in Rome, Italy, where she put on a stunning performance last week.

    The couple briefly split in January 2010 when they had been together for 20 months, before later reconciling.

    They then split again in late 2011, before giving their relationship another go in early 2012.
    Scherzinger is expected to make an appearance at the X Factor auditions in Cardiff later this week, whereas Hamilton will travel to take part in the German Grand Prix on July 7.

    Time to just move on. I don't know why he needs to tame the cougar anyway. There are so many better options available (subjectively speaking)

    Well, this explains all those hangup calls on my voicemail when I checked it today. I already told her we already tried a relationship and it didn't work, so need to stay just friends and I don't feel That Way toward her and we will never be a couple. But you can't blame a girl for trying.

    My world has been turned upside down. It hurts very, very much when you loose the most important person in your life. I'm trying everything to stay positive but I'm going through a very difficult time right now. I have to keep busy or I'm loosing my mind. I just hope that time now passes quickly.

    Sounds like a soap opera to me. :D

    Personally, Hamilton should block out everything that distracts him for the next 3 years at least so that he can assault the WDC.

    Kinda related and sheds some light on a befuddling story a friend just shared with me.

    My buddy went to a party at the Playboy Mansion last week (which was cool in itself, we live in Nashville... that doesn't happen everyday) and said he met this "race car driver" named Lewis Hamilton.

    My friend wouldn't know a Sprint Cup Car from an F1 car, let alone know who the hell Lewis Hamilton was. He said Lewis introduced himself, asked what my friend did, and then he returned the question. Lewis said he raced cars, my buddy says he has a friend (me) that loves Formula One... do you watch it? Lewis laughed and told him that he's seen it a few times. They ended up hanging out ALL FREAKING NIGHT. I asked my friend if Nicole Scherzinger was there with him. He said if she was, he never saw her, and they spent a good 2 hours together that night.

    He said he went to the bathroom and googled LH and felt like crawling into a hole when he saw that he was an F1 driver and World Champ.

    From my perspective, it's not about Nicole. I agree she is very attractive and obviously brings something to the table.

    Lewis is the kind of personality who can be completely thrown off the path by relationship foibles. If everything is great, it can propel him to excellence on the track. If everything isn't so hunky-dory, then it can become a significant distraction. FWIW, I think he's really into her and unfortunately that can be a bad thing for his racing career. Other guys seem to keep their S.O.'s at an arm's distance (emphasis on "seem")

    She's very well known in hollywood for being the type that "works" her way to the top. Lewis is but a step on the ladder for her.

    Apparently Hami flew to LA to straighten things out and they are back together.

    Can't wait for Spa to have real news again.
