Fellow F-chatters, I have noticed that many (including myself) get overwhelmed with the myriad choices when it comes to selecting a car. It becomes difficult to keep all the facts straight from car to car and be able to compare apples and oranges. I created an Excel spreadsheet with the basics that one would look at in selecting a car and found that this made it easy for me to make a decision. I am posting it here for anyone that may find it helpful. It can obviously be modified to use for other models as well or to add additional parameters. The cars on the spreadsheet are or were actually listed for sale, but I omitted the dealer name and made up the locations. Which one would you choose? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great and very helpful for new buyers, IMO this thread should be referred to in the (360/430 DIY and Technical threads) sticky .
I did this, but then assigned personal and some observed values for each item, with some rules and variations for mileage, year and maintenance. For instance, I adjusted the value for estimated clutch usage (i.e., not necessarily that of the SD2) using clutch replacement cost. Made comparing and decision making so much easier.
