I have a RHD 881/2 countach, and the passenger side radiator fan is not coming on at 80 degrees C , as it normally does

the drivers side fan , which has the temperature sender is attached to the adjacent radiator is working perfectly

I have checked the fuses in the trunk, and underthe dash, and they appear ok

I have ordered another cooling fan relay, and will fit it into the metal box that is in the trunk as soon as I get it

    1) what else should I check, and how should I go about doing these checks (I am not very technically experienced)

    2) at what temperatures should each of the cooling fans cut in?
is it true that one fan cuts in at 80C and the other at 90C?
there are 2 wire connecting to the temperature sender unit in the drivers side radiator on my car

3)what is the maximum safe temperature for the coolant temperature to rise to?
the red mark on my water temperature gauge is at 120C, but is this not too high?

    4) also, the car is running red aluminium friendly coolant
it is a little low just now
I am unable to get the exact red (AGIP) PREMIXED COOLANT
should I just add distilled water ? OR is it ok to add red coolant , albeit of a different brand?

    thank you for your help

I forgot to add that I have connected up a remote 12 v source directly to the non functioning passenger side fan, and the fan immediately starts working as normal

Sounds like your on the right track changing the relay. Can you try a same, known good relay in its place?
How low is LOW regarding the coolant?!! First find out where it's going before you have further issues. Coolant should be changed every couple of years so it might be worth replacing with new coolant and not mixing.

Did you try bypassing the radiator temp switch?
    Did fan come on then?
My bet is a faulty temp switch or bad wire connection at the switch!

    ^ my thoughts exactly

Each fan circuit runs through a 25A relay that is known to get hot and potentially melt the older plastic relay boxes.

If you have a bench tester then checking the relays should be easy. They are BOSCH 0332-019-151. Once you verify that the relay box “looks” okay, even if you cannot check the relays I’d check the thermostat first. The thermostat is located on the right side radiator and should have 3 contacts: Blue-Black, White-Black, Black.

Mine is also an 88-1/2 but I have 4 fans.
    - Jumping Blue-Black to Black the left-pull and the right-push fans turn on (1st initial set temp)
    - Jumping White-Black to Black the left-push and the right-pull fans turn on (2nd high set temp)

Although not related to your situation some 4 fan CT’s are wired to where both pull fans turn on 1st, then the pushers turn on 2nd. I’m told that the fans turning on in unison is incorrect since the 4 fan system added two additional fans without rewiring the original two. I.E. the left-pull turns on first in 2 & 4 fan systems, right-pull turns on second.

The 4 fan systems put a lot more strain on the relays and the battery. Before I cleaned up the grounds I saw the voltage at the battery drop from 13.9V to 11.9V with just the first two fans on and the AC off. Grounds are notorious for causing a lot of gremlins so you may want to check those out too.

Just for reference, the hot wires on my fans are:
    Left-push: Pink
    Left-pull: Green
    Right-push: yellow/black
    Right-pull: blue-black

    Good Luck,

    Larry

as i told many times, the four fan solution is a disaster, drains too much current and destroys electric system. You need just two enhanced fan like those of the 25th or the new SPAL replacement, that flow more than the 4 fan system. There is a discussion somewhere, here or on **********, i do not remember anymore.

Per the CT Maintenance Manual page 16:

The cooling fan thermal switch is mounted on the right radiator and allows the cooling fans to turn on between 180-190 F (82-88 C) and turn off between 165-176 F (74-80 C).

It doesn’t specifically call out the two poles separately.
