I was wondering if the flags underneath the emblems had any significance. I found a red X on white background associated with Luqa, Malta but also found St. Patrick's saltire. Don't know what it has to do with Vignale...

It is an interior decoration badge, that's for sure !

Strange, indeed! Yet it is a Vignale badge! Alfredo Vignale was born in Turin, but I do not see the the relationship with the X ! mystery !
The cars were very personalized at that time, which is why they are so unique !

I found a Ferrari -Pininfarini crossed flags emblem with the red diamond on white background from a prior referral on this website. Near as I can tell the Red diamond may represent the letter "F"? There are two studs on the back of the emblems with small nuts to fasten. Not sure where on the car it would be fastened to.

May have answered my own question. Letter "F" is red diamond on white, letter "V" is red cross on white. Letter "P" is blue rectangle around white rectangle. (I checked another Ferrari-Pininfarini emblem, and it seems to match) The current nautical meaning for the symbols is not very flattering in automotive terms:

F - "I am disabled; communicate with me." (When flown from an aircraft carrier; "Warning; flight operations under way.")

    V- "I require assistance."
With one or more numerals, speed in kilometres per hour.

Good information. My badge has two bolts on the back, and looks like it may have been screwed on to the car, but I didn't have any idea where. I have a number of original photos that I can look at in the locations you mentioned and see if it is visible.

Found it on the trunk! I've posted a better picture of the emblem, context shot of the rear of the car and a blowup of the logo on the car. Photos were taken in November of 1961. Thank you for the direction, I wouldn't have known where to look. According to Marcel Massini, this car is currently in the Far East with an undisclosed owner. Don't know if it still has the emblem or not... All photos Copyright Scott Fitch 2013.

I may still have a few WART (Western America Racing Team) decals and perhaps a few FOC (US) decals or jacket patches. Give me an address. Ed
